Chapter 35: Before the Storm

Rudy POV

The 74th hunger games had arrived. I got to watch Katniss Everdeen live in this world like I did in my last life. I saw the truffles she went to and witnessed the death of Rue. I got to say Katniss is a fighter. The 74th hunger games went the same way as the movies did. There was nothing different at all. Looks like the fate of this world has not changed with me in it. It is probably due to me not having interfered with the time too much. On the other hand, the only people's lives I changed were Finnick, Mags, and Annie’s lives. 

Just like the previous years, Finnick was in the capitol as a mentor for the tributes of district 4 for the 74th hunger games. Those poor kids didn’t make it back home due to both the winners being from district 12. 

I watched the games because I had to see how things played out. However, I have to say I am still uncomfortable with the idea of watching these games. Nevertheless, I had no choice but to do so. Like everyone in each district is forced to watch. During the duration of the 74th hunger games I watched from my living room t.v, while my son Caspian was in his room either playing with his toys or down for a nap. 

I didn’t want him anywhere near the t.v or getting a peak  of these games in his life. I will do everything in my power to shield him from this cruel world. Also, he was too young to understand what the games are and would not understand until he was more grown up. You can say I wanted to protect his innocence. 

Just like I said before, the 74th hunger games went exactly like the books and movies had done. I watched as the district 2 tribute Cato, was ripped to shreds by dog like mutts. The mutts pulled at his limbs making him scream out in agonizing pain. To be honest, dying against those mutts was the worst way to go because he had made it to the final three. You can say he was tortured before he died with a mercy kill from Katniss’s arrow through his head. 

When his cannon fire went off, I shut my eyes when they showed a close up at Cato’s mangle body. I just prayed for his soul along with other fallen tributes to have a better next life like I always do. Being a parent now makes these games harder to bare. After the shot of Cato, the cameras settle on Katniss and Peeta. The screen showed Katniss and Peeta. Holding hands with a small pile of nightlocks in their hands while their other free hands were intertwined with one another. All I could think of is “he we go” and this moment marks the particle change that Panem needs. With this one scene a spark will ignite in the people of Panem. History will mark this day as the start of the new Panem. 

Like in the books and movies, they both won their game, but their act of rebellion will cause others to feel pain and be punished for their act. They had changed peoples’ lives for the worse to get their happy ending. By the end of the night, many people will have died because of them. On the other hand, you can say they save many and change the lives for the people of the districts for the better. However, I can say it was neither because with every action they make from here on out will have massive consequences from goo to bad. We can worry about these ideas later on. 

“This will not end well,” I said to myself in a whisper. I was all alone in the living room feeling many different emotions that I cannot process clearly. At the end of the day, Snow is going to be upset and that will lead him wanting Katniss and Peeta heads. Snow is going to try his best to take them down. While he is doing so he will bring down past victors of the hunger games. The time is ticking for a new era of this world to come. Before that can happen bloodshed will occur. 

While I was in my thoughts, I heard from the t.v loudly and clearly from Caesar Flickerman's voice,” What an exciting end to this year’s games! I don’t think that the capitol has been this excited about the games since Rudy Wolfstein-Odair now better known as the capitol’s trickster prince. Also, husband to the capitol’s darling.''
