When we got home, Isa told us that the police came to her place of work and told her the news. She was devastated, even though he was a piece of shit, he was still her husband.
They did ask where she was and who her alibi was. The police conveyed that they will be coming to confirm with us, sometime this week but I doubt it.
As I am preparing dinner, I hear the gate open, I am not expecting anyone but maybe it is one of Kai's workers. I dry my hands before going to look, as I get in front of the gate, I notice the girl coming towards my door as a student of Isa's.
"Isa." I turn to go back to cooking
"I am here for you, Señora."
"Me? Oh, well come in." she comes in and takes her shoes off at the door. I lead her to the island and ask that she takes a seat. "How can I help you?" I continue cooking, waiting for her to talk.
"Señora, I have been thinking about going to University in America and I wanted you to teach me English so that I can go."
"What grade are you in?"
"Ten, Señora."
"Okay, I can teach you English, but if you are going to apply to a school in America, you are going to need more than good English."
"Señora?"
"You need great marks, extracurricular activities, glowing recommendations and confidence in yourself."
"Si, Señora."
"Good. I am going to ask to speak to your parents and I will ask, Ms Isa to talk to them as well so that you can dedicate your time and energy to this goal of yours."
"Gracias, Señora."
"De nada." she walks out of my house and I continue cooking dinner. I do like helping people, it makes it easier to live with the guilt, I feel inside.
We had dinner together and I told Isa about her student. She is happy to help and she will talk to her parents before the week is over.
Kaiser cleans up after Isa goes to sleep. He has been quiet the entire dinner, but that is how he usually is around new people.
"I would like us to have a blueprint done by the end of the week." he is washing the dishes as I drink a glass of wine.
"For the boat?" he nods "Okay. We will have it done by the end of the week."
"I was talking to Luis and by the time we have everything we need to build your boat, a few of the workers will be done working on some of the boats."
"So we will not be the only ones working on it?" he nods. As he finishes washing dishes, he pours a glass of whiskey and we head outside to watch the stars.
"We still getting a dog?"
"Yeah, just let's wait a while."
"Okay," he says before planting a kiss on my forehead. "Had a feeling."
"Shut up." I jest and it evokes a laugh out of him. After a while, we went to bed.
He went to work by himself and I stayed home to do the laundry and mop our floors. After I was done, I decided to check our pantry for what is missing so I can send him to buy it.
After I have the list done, I placed it on the counter while I went to our study to work on the blueprint. First I listed everything I needed; a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and lounging area with TV.
The appeal of a houseboat is that it is mostly above water and that is what I like about it.
Isa came home with her student Juliana. We first began with figuring out what extracurricular activities she is going to do. Given that she is already in tenth grade, we have time for her to change subjects.
We also have decided that once a week she will take a practice SAT paper and work on it throughout the week.
"Señora, I think that there are other people who would benefit from this opportunity," she says as she takes notes.
"I will talk to Ms Isa." she smiles before going back to her books. As I head for the kitchen, Kai walks into the house, his keys in hand and a cap on his head.
"Hola," he says to Juliana.
"Hola, Señor." he walks into the kitchen and opens his arms, I walk into them and he wraps me in his embrace.
"You look beautiful." he whispers to me before planting a kiss on my forehead.
When we pull away he walks to the fridge to pull out a tub of ice cream.
"Baby, when you are done resting, could you go buy these things for me." I hand the list to him and he looks at it before placing it in his pocket and nodding "I forgot to add pads, please remember them for me."
"I thought your period was next week?"
"Yeah, but I don't have any pads left and I don't want to wake up to bloody sheets and have to drive to the shop for pads."
"I will get them for you, Kàtzchen."
"Danke liebes." he smiles and plants a kiss on my forehead before going outside to relax. One thing I know is that he will get it done without any reminder from me. [Translation: Thank you, Love]
Juliana comes into the kitchen with her bag on her back.
"Are you done?" she nods. "Okay, well, here are a few cupcakes for you and your siblings." I hand her the cupcakes, hoping her parents do not take an issue with it.
"Gracias, Señora." a smile from me and she turns to leave "Can I ask a question, Señora?"
"Sure."
"How long have you and your husband been married?"
"uhm, thirteen years this year." we have been together for seventeen years. "A long time now."
"How do you stay together that long?"
"Ohh, that is a question for him, I do not know how to make our relationship work, he does." a chuckle from me. "All I do is try to make him happy and make his life better when and where I can."
"How does he make it work?"
"You should ask him." she looks afraid to approach the subject.
See the tattoos, his stature and the way he does not smile for strangers, he can look scary, I just love all those things about him so he looks safe for me. "Herr Ludwig, können Sie herkommen?"
[Translation: Mister Ludwig, can you come here?]
He walks into the kitchen, his lips sewn together, his face dark and blank, he screams predator but everything in my body longs for him.
"Juliana wanted to know, how we stayed together for so long?" he squints his eyes as he considers the question.
"I do all I can to keep you content and safe and you make me content and safe."
"That's how that works, you just need to find someone who wants to make it work. We have not always been this great but now we are on the same page and when we are not, we fight to be on the same team."
"Yeah."
"Are you done resting?" he nods before placing the tub in the sink along with the spoon. "Do you think you can drop Juliana home before going to the store." he nods and places his lips on my forehead before heading for the car. "He will make sure you get home safe." she nods before following him out.

The End is in sight. I am finally ready to let Kamo and Kaiser go, I have already pictured the ending and so all I have to do is write it and while it may not be an ending I like, it is an ending I know they deserve.
