37: Never Say Never

We have started on the boat. It took a while but we have begun. Kai and the team have already begun working on the boat.

When I try to do some heavy lifting, everyone acts like I will break and honestly, I let them because who wants to carry around wood and steel all day? Not me. I do like cutting things, with all the correct safety precautions, I will cut anything they need.

Maria and I chose the tiles that will be used throughout the house and the wood types. While my husband loves Oak and mahogany, I prefer Maple and Walnut, so we opted for mostly Walnut with hints of Mahogany.

Because of the types of wood I chose, we had to wait a few weeks for the wood to arrive but when it did, we began production right away.

I also had to order the appliances, the steelware and the tiles. Kaiser gave me all authority, he said "I am here to do, you are the thinker." my husband forgets how eccentric I can be.

When the day is over, we head home where Daniel and Juanita are waiting for us, more so Daniel, Juanita spends most of her time, in her corner and I understand that it will take a lot of love to get her to be accepting towards us.

After work, I try to spend time with Juanita even if it is just sitting near her Kennel and singing for her. She also seems to enjoy mangos so I got a batch of those and give her half a day.

When we had to decide on Kennels, he wanted to make them but he is building a boat for me, he can not also build two Kennels in a few days so we could bring the dogs home.

We finally agreed on two small kennels that will be used while he builds his dream Kennels.

With the two new additions to our family, I had to modify the blueprints to include space for the two new members of our unit.

We chose a multihull with a bordered deck. Kai and the team built most of it without my help but I am helping with the cabin structure. For everything I wanted to fit, we have two levels.

Kitchen, lounging area on the first floor and bedroom, bathroom and the dogs' room on the second floor.

"Would you like me to show you?" he asks holding the power saw. A nod and he asks Jose to bring goggles for me to use.

He stands behind me as I hold the tool. His hand on my waist, he guides me on how to use the tool. "Good job, Kitten." he removes his hand and goes to help Jose cut the tiles.

"I have Volleyball practice so I have to leave right now if I am going to make it in time."

"Take the truck and you will pick me up when you are done."

"Thank you for offering but I prefer to walk."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

"I could drive you there if you want?"

"It's okay, Baby. You keep working, see you at home." a kiss on his cheek before I go to fetch my bag and water bottle.

I like how thought-cleansing a walk can be.

Practice is hard, the girls are giving it their all but they are still making sloppy mistakes.

"Are you walking today, Mrs Ludwig?"

"Yes, I am."

"Why is your husband not picking you up?" we walk out of the schoolyard.

"Oh, he is being held up at work, I told him, I would meet him at home."

"Okay, so what have you been up to lately?"

"Building a boat, tutoring students, working at the shelter and taking care of our dogs."

"You are so busy." she giggles

"Yeah, I try to keep myself busy. What have you been up to lately?"

"Recently moved out of my parents' house into my own apartment and I have been looking for a roommate."

"Oh my word, congratulations, that is a big step. I am sure you will find the right person soon enough."

"Oh, I hope so, it is scary being alone."

"I know, I can remember living by myself when I was in University, it was frightening."

"What did you do?"

"Nothing, there was nothing to do but I would suggest a dog, to keep you company and protect you."

"Yeah, and we can walk them together."

"Definitely." we stop in front of my gate "Do you want to come in?"

"Oh, I..."

"I would love your company."

"Okay, fine."

"Yes, come on, I will make you something to eat for later." we walk in and Daniel runs to our feet, wagging his tail, I give him a scratch behind the ears before going into the kitchen to prepare dinner for us and Kaiser.

Handing her a glass of juice as I drink my cocktail.

"No, no, there is no way."

"Yes, way. I was not bullied but I was also not well liked."

"What? You but you are so you."

"And back when I was still figuring it out, I felt isolated and alone."

"You are not alone." she holds my hand.

"And neither are you," I say and my husband walks in. "Oh, you are back."

"Mmh."

"Kai, this is Jess, Jess, this is my husband, Kaiser."

"Nice to meet you."

"Likewise," he says. Usually, he is in auto-pilot mode when talking to people he does not know nor like but the energy he is emitting is jealousy, from the clenched jaw to the balled-up fist, he is envious.

"Well, I had fun and we should do this again." she places her hand on my shoulder before pulling me into a hug. I packed a lunchbox with dinner for her and she tucked it into her bag.

"We should." we pull apart and she turns to leave.

"Bye," she says walking away.

"Bye." closing the door, I focus on my husband who is making himself a cocktail. "Mr Ludwig..."

"Mmh."

"You seem covetous."

"Mmh."

"And you can barely speak."

"I am trying to choose my words carefully, Meine Liebe."

"Why?"

"While I love when people want what is mine, I do not like seeing you flirt with other people."

"I was not flirting."

"Okay." he rolls his eyes as he continues placing crackers on the plate.

"I only want you."

"I know that, I just..."

"I only want you."

"You better." his hand connects to my ass. "I love you."

"I love you." he makes his way outside to watch the sky turn black.
