"Mom?! Logan?!Where are you?!"

Riley was on the verge of a panic attack as he raced from Hailey's car and into the guest house his mother had been residing in since the unofficial separation.

He had gotten a frantic call telling him to get there immediately. It had been so abrupt he didn't even let Nikolai know he left the Café, all he knew was that he needed to leave.

As soon as he appeared in the living room he was greeted with a frustrated sigh.

"Mom you told him?!"
Logan groaned.

"Of course I did, he was the first person I contacted to make sure he was okay"
Marissa snapped getting to her feet.

"It's okay to check on him, but why call him here?"

"Logan calm down"
Landon hissed in a disapproving tone. Even as an adult that was no way to speak to your mother.

Logan opened his mouth to argue again, but quickly closed it when he caught the look on Hailey's face as she too entered the room.

He pulled his lower lip into his mouth before turning away with a huff.

"Mom, what's going on?"
Riley almost cried running to his Marissa's side.

The room went quiet as the three who were in the loop looked at each other as though deciding whether to tell the younger.

Finally, Landon sighed and gathered a beautiful black and gold box with an open card from above the fireplace.

"This was dropped off about an hour ago"

After the box was placed on the table Riley glanced at the letter that had obviously been typed and printed.

This isn't over you bitch. I told you I'd kill you and I keep my promises.

He glanced at the red splotches on the paper hoping it wasn't what he thought it was, then with his stomach already in knots he slowly opened the box.

"Oh my God"
He gasped, his trembling hands dropped the lid and there in full view he saw a large bird that had been mutilated and repositioned to resemble it's former structure, with a single knife sticking out of its chest.

Holding a hand over his mouth Riley rushed to the guest bathroom and threw up in the sink as he couldn't make it to the toilet.

Tears flowed uncontrollably down his face and his head felt like it would burst at any moment.

A hand on his back had him violently flinching away and the other person quickly retreated knowing he needed space. Hailey frowned at her friend's state and made a call to the only person she knew would make him feel safe.

"Cirillo"

"It's Hailey, you need to get to Riley's mom's place right now, he needs you"

"I'm on my way"
He could tell there was an emergency and didn't delay for even a moment. Though whenever it came to Riley Nikolai had never been one to hesitate.

The urgency; however, came from two facts.

One was that this was the first time she had ever called him and two Riley had disobeyed his order to wait or phone him when leaving the Café thus, he knew it had to be serious.

Once they hung up Hailey turned to watch the young man who had balled himself up in a corner hugging his knees and rocking himself back and forth, whilst mumbling incoherently words at a rapid pace.

She couldn't believe the day had turned out like this.

They had stayed to order some lunch and were at the eatery talking and laughing for an extra two hours after Riley had expressed that he felt he was being watched. They didn't see anything out of the ordinary and chalked it up to mild paranoia because of his social anxiety.
