“Hmm… Controlling plants would be cool.”

“Really? Plants?”

“Well, you already picked fire.”

“Yeah but… plants?”

“I don't see your problem. Do you know how much you could do with that power? You'd just use fire for arson.”

“So what? What would you do with flowers, smartass?”

“It's not just flowers. But you could have a nice flower shop, for one.”

“Oh wow.”

“You could make the biggest forest in the whole world. And imagine the treehouses you could make. Not to mention the great options for fighting. Even plants that aren't poisonous or anything could be dangerous. I could tie the most annoying people in the blink of an eye with a single strand of grass.”

Kai scoffed. “I'm not annoying, I'm so insanely perfect your mind can't comprehend it, so it mistakes it for annoyance.”

Cole snapped his fingers. “Ah, now I get it. Thanks for clearing things up.”

“Of course, dude. Anytime.” Kai patted his shoulder and looked around as they walked down an almost empty street. “Hey, we can catch a bus if you don't want to walk all the way.”

“No, it's good, I don't mind walking.”

“All right.” Kai bumped their shoulders. “Thanks again for walking me home by the way. Even when I said several times you didn't have to.”

“You keep thanking me like it's that big of a deal. It's fine, I wouldn't miss out a chance to be with you, you know?”

Kai hummed, looking around again. Despite how late it was, the sun was still brightening the sky, although it shouldn't be for long. Last golden rays shone through the gaps between buildings and reflected in the windows, as if it was trying to hold onto them, as if it was desperately trying not to set.

The air was chillier but still carrying the authentic summer sense of laziness. One just wanted to sprawl on the couch and do nothing for the rest of existence.

Curiously, there weren't that many cars passing by at the moment, making the street calm and quiet. There were even barely any pedestrians, as if everyone decided to give them some privacy. Of course it was just luck but neither of them had any issue with the lack of distractions. Had there been a lot of dog owners walking their furballs, it would take them ages to get home.

“Maybe we should do this more often. Just walk. It's nice,” Kai said, looking at Cole and offering him a smile.

“Yeah. It is.”

Kai looked away again and clapped his hands together. “All right, next question… Which animal would you like to be? Let's just stay with the real ones because then everyone would just want to be a dragon.”

“I don't know if I would want to be a dragon.”

“What? Why not?”

“Well, I mean… You'd be so huge, it must be hard to control that body, no? I think it would be frustrating, you don't focus for a bit and your tail destroys something, I don't know.”

“But if you were a dragon wouldn't it also mean you know how to move around?”

“What do I know? I'm not a dragon, I'm just assuming. But I mean it definitely can't be easy.”

Kai hummed as he thought. “I would probably just go with a cheetah. They're fast, they're dangerous… They're perfect. Not to mention how cool they look. I would rock that fur, wouldn't I? Every other cheetah would be so jealous of me.”

Cole paused. Perhaps he got frozen in the spot. Or perhaps in the moment. He just watched them walk several steps, still talking. Until they stopped as well and turned.

“Cole, my hand is getting lonely!” he called while reaching out with said hand, making Cole smile and catch up. Their fingers were intertwined and it seemed that they were always supposed to fit like that together.

“You were thinking cheesy thoughts, weren't you?” Kai teased with that contagious smirk on. “Well, how about this – what would be the first thing you'd do if you became ruler of the entire world?”
