Morning light caressed his face until slowly, he got through the blur… And Kai was laying right there, staring at him.

“Did you know people used to sleep on porcelain pillows because it was chilly? And of course, the high and mighties had to protect their hairstyles, right, but did you also know they used them to not want to sleep long because oversleeping was apparently a bad thing? There are even poems about it from sleepless poets. Just imagine if somebody tried to bring them back again. But at least the porcelain ones look all right, but imagine just sleeping on wood… Can you imagine that?”

Cole blinked and his eyes got blurry again so he blinked once more to get rid of it. However, his confusion wasn't as easy to get rid of.

“… Good morning?”

Kai grinned at him, reminding Cole once again that the sun was basically irrelevant.

“Good morning, sleeping beauty. Have you ever been camping? I think that can equal a porcelain pillow, it kills my neck every time.”

“No, I've never been camping,” Cole answered, holding onto the blanket as he rolled on his side to match Kai. “Please tell me we're not going camping.”

“Well, as much as I would like to fix the atrocious thing you just said, I have to say no. I'm busier than ever now that schools are over again.” He glanced at the clock before sighing and turning back to Cole. “Gods, I have just three hours.”

“Isn't that more than enough?”

“Barely. I have to go home to fix my hair because I don't have the right things here. And you know that absolutely no one can see me like this, you're getting an exclusive look. Not even my siblings saw me this often with my bed hair. Also, I need to get my things. And then I have to get there and change my clothes again and prepare everything, especially myself… it's a lot.” Kai sighed, wrapping one arm around Cole, burying his face into the pillow into which he continued talking, “Not to mention the world's most difficult task, which is getting out of bed.”

“I told you I got out the most comfortable sheets.”

“And I can't tell whether I hate it or love it. Maybe I should own a porcelain pillow.” They revealed their face again. “Do you think waterbeds would be like oversized toilets?”

“Interesting question… Do you think you could just flush old sheets?”

“Dude, auto-cleaning bed! That will be the peak of lazy society.”

Cole wrapped his arm around Kai as well and brought him closer, leaning his forehead against theirs.

“Sometimes I would like to see what it looks like inside your head,” he murmured. “How did watching me sleep make you think about toilet beds?”

“Well, that idea came to me just now but you looked so calm and peaceful it reminded me of the porcelain thing. If it was in our time, you would be the perfect face for advertising. I can see it: ‘Peaceful sleep with Porcelaid, get yours now!’”

Cole chuckled. “Did I ever tell you how lucky I am to be with you?”

“Nope. I've never ever ever heard you even slightly suggest that.”

“Oh well, I guess we shouldn't make such radical changes then.”

“What? No! That's not what you were supposed to say!”

“And what was I supposed to say?”

“Oh, I don't know,” Kai sighed theatrically. “Just something about how much you adore my entire being and every single thing I do and how completely destroyed you are because I have to leave because without me by your side you feel so unwhole. Something along those lines…”

“Well, if it was on me, there would be no such thing like jobs and we could stay in this bed like this forever and you'll tell me all about your crazy dreams.”

“Yeah, that would be perfect,” Kai sighed once again, closing their eyes and hugging Cole close. They buried their head into the crook of his neck, tickled him with the warm breaths.

“You're risking falling asleep.”

“Nah, I'm too awake for that, unfortunately.” In response, Cole only hummed and brought his hand up into Kai's hair. He closed his eyes as well.

“You really mean so much to me, Kai.” And they stayed like that until the time pressure was truly undeniable.
