"You didn't check the weather?"

"Do I look like the kind of person that checks the weather?"

"Yeah... That's on me."

"You're supposed to be the responsible one!"

It was a beautiful, sun-filled day, who wouldn't use the opportunity to go outside and enjoy one of summer's last breaths?

Then the cloudburst came, waylaying Kai and Cole at the worst possible time — when there weren't any roofs or trees nearby, they didn't have any sweatshirts or jackets – or umbrellas, for that matter. The oh-so-popular seaside promenade was now the worst place to be.

Running to find some shelter, their footsteps shot the water back up into the air, the splashing muted by the continuous pelting.

Within a snap, Kai halted to a stop, making Cole stumble behind him as he tried to freeze without ramming into them. Staring ahead at the deserted sidewalk, Kai let his arms drop by his sides.

"What is it?"

Kai swished his hands, discarding their frantic search for cover. "What's the point? We're already soaked anyway." As much as they hated the feeling of their clothes sticking to them like a second skin, finding a roof would not do anything to undo that. So, instead, he turned to Cole. He was panting and confusion swirled in his eyes, but there was a faint smile gracing his lips.

"We can be singing in the rain or whatever, it's not gonna do anything."

"I think the term 'screaming' would be more fitting."

Although Kai rolled his eyes, the sight of Cole's smile brightening was more than welcome. It was true, despite all the yelling, hearing anything was quite the challenge. Especially when they were running and trying not to get blinded by all the water.

Cole's smile widened even further before he recited, "The sun's in my heart, and I'm ready for love..." Then, just as fast and without a warning as the heavens opened up, Kai captured Cole's face in both of their hands and kissed him until nothing could be heard, not even the stadium cheering of the rain.
