"One large black to go, right?"

Cole looked up when his words were so mercilessly stolen. He nodded upon seeing Kai's smiling face. Well, that was certainly faster than at his old place. Truth be told, he was a little thrown off as he fumbled with his wallet for the money.

"Sorry, I just... I recognised you from before, so I assumed..." Their smile turned into a sheepish one as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"No. No, it's fine." Cole found himself smiling back at them. "I just didn't expect you would get used to me so quickly. The last time it took almost half a year."

"Oh, well, that's totally not embarrassing," Kai muttered, idly fiddling with the cash register, his gaze focused on it instead of Cole. Then his coworker made him turn around and Cole was handed his order just like every other day.

"Thanks. Have a nice day, Kai."

"You too."

And with a tinkle, he was out in the busy street once again, the city bustle filling his ears before he put his headphones on.
