Alex's pov
That night I couldn't fall asleep. I had so many thoughts running through my head. I was so pensive that I didn't notice that it was morning already. I got up from the bed and I looked out the window. The sun was beginning to rise. I didn't know what time my mum was coming home though.
By looking at the sky I could tell it wouldn't have been a cloudy day hopefully, even if it was December. I checked the alarm and it was 7.30 in the morning.
I guessed Helen would have been awake already so I went downstairs. Actually I found Helen and Nick having breakfast.
They were talking about their stuffs and then they noticed me entering the room.
"Good morning Alex" Nick said
"Hey, sweetie. Slept well?" Helen asked me
I shook my head "Are you okay?" she asked
"Yeah, just a bit nervous. Do you know what time mum's going to arrive here in Dublin?" I asked as I sat beside Nick
"11 o'clock. Do you want to come with us at the airport?"
I nodded. "Okay, we're going to be there about 9" Nick said
"Okay, I'm going to get ready" I said as I stood up
"Eat something before going" Helen said
"Sorry, I'm not very hungry this morning" I said
They gave me an understandable look and I went upstairs to get ready.
I was lost in my thoughts when suddenly I hit something. I lift my head up and I saw Glen. He had his hair messed up that made him look cute and he was wearing his pyjamas which consisted of night trousers and a black vest. I didn't notice I was staring at him until he spoke.
"Alex?!" he said
"Yeah?" I said trying not to look too embarrassed
"Are you okay?" he asked
"Yeah, I was just going to get ready because I'm going with your parents to the airport to get my mum" I said
"Oh, I'm coming with you then" he said and I didn't have the time to say anything because he was already in his room getting ready.
I sighed and went in the bathroom. I took a quick shower and I got dressed and in 30 minutes I was ready.
The ride to the airport was silent and I was very anxious. Helen, Nick and Glen tried to calm me down but the fear of losing my mum was still there.
We arrived at the airport and went to the "Arrivals" area
"Your mum's flight is going to land at 11 o'clock. It's early now though" Helen said
"Do you want something to eat?" Nick asked me.
"Come on Alex, you need to eat something" Glen added looking at me worriedly
"Okay" I said
"We're going to buy you breakfast, wait here with Glen" Nick said and they went away
They were so protective over me and they became like a second family to me.
Glen and I were seated in the waiting room. He was holding my hand because he felt my nervousness
"I'm going to the toilet. Wait here" Glen said and I nodded
I was left alone and I started playing with my fingers. I went outside the building because I was bored.
There were a lot of people with their luggage who were leaving and some who were just arrived and they were taking a taxi for going home
Suddenly I felt someone beside me.
"Hey" I turned my head around and I saw Sean, the guy I met in detention. I hadn't seen him since that day.
"Um, hi" I said hesitating.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"I'm waiting for my mum to arrive" I said not looking at him.
"Oh, I see" he said and then there was an awkward silence between us.
"You're more beautiful since last time I saw you" and there he was: I didn't even know him and he made me all those compliments.
"Thanks" I said
"You know, I'm going to USA. My parents are sending me to military school. I had a bad behavior at our school and with them too, so it's like a punishment" he said
I don't know why but I felt like relaxed when he told me that he was leaving.
"Why do you become dumb when I talk to you?" he asked
I rolled my eyes. I couldn't stand him even if we talked just a few times.
"Why don't you like me? Every girl falls for me but you don't" Then he closed the space between us and somehow my back hit the wall. He put both his hands to either side of my head.
"Or you do but you don't want to show me" he whispered in my face.
I was scared. I hadn't had my first kiss yet and I didn't want it to be like that and especially with a guy I didn't like.
I closed my eyes because I didn't know what to do. I just wanted that moment to end.
Then I felt the cold air tickling my face. I opened my eyes and Sean wasn't there. In fact he was on the ground and someone was on top of him, beating him. And that someone was Glen.
Sean was trying to fighting him but uselessy
"Glen!" I screamed and I took him by his shoulders and I dragged him away from Sean. He tried to get back on top of him but I stopped him.
"Stop it!" I yelled to him
"He was bothering you!" he yelled angrily
"There's no need to beat the shit out of him!"
Sean was rubbing his nose. He had a cut on it and it was bleeding a little.
I helped him to stand up and then Helen and Nick came outside.
"What the hell is happening here?" Nick said
"Alex?" Helen said looking at me for getting an explanation.
"I'll tell you later. He needs help" I said pointing at Sean.
"Okay. We're going to take him to the infirmary. Wait here. I'll deal with you two later" Nick said
"Anyway here's you breakfast" Helen said handing me a cup of coffee.
I made my way inside the building and I felt Glen following me.
"Alex" he called me but I didn't pay attention because I was mad at him. He helped me but he had no right to beat Sean. He could've talked to him like normal people do. But no, he always chase the way of violence.
"Alex, please" he said taking my wrist. "Don't talk to me" I said as he slackened the grip on my wrist and I sat at the same place as before.
He sat beside me "I know I shouldn't have done that. But he got on my nerves. He was bothering you and I couldn't stand it. You looked so scared and I had to help you" he said
I didn't say anything. He sighed in frustration and then Helen and Nick come toward us.
"He's fine now and he's going to the 'Departures' area" Helen said
I nodded. "So, can someone tell us what happened?" Helen said crossing her arms over her chest.
"It's my fault. She did nothing. I saw him scaring her and I thought I had to do something" Glen said
"Oh yeah, and that meant that you had to kill him?" Nick said
"I just gave him a lesson" he said rolling his eyes
"Sure. But you're going to be grounded" Helen said and then Nick and she sat beside us.
We stayed silent. It was 10 o'clock. My mum would have arrived in an hour and I couldn't wait to see her.
