Luke was met with a group of hospital staff at the emergency entrance.Luke have a verbal report despite feeling winded, transferring care over watching as they wheeled his son away from him. "Elliot please be alright." He whispered seeing the doctors rush him down the hallway to the intensive care unit.
"You did good today, Steph. Nice work." Luke tried to lighten the mood attempting to give Stephanie a fist bump, she declined giving him a hug instead, Luke taken by surprise. In return Luke hugged her a little tighter. "Don't flatter yourself Captain, none of this would have been possible with out you. Elliot's got a lot to be thankful for."
"Yeah, well. I doubt he's going to care about what I just did. He doesn't want me around. Maybe I should just go." Luke exhaled loudly.
"What? Don't be silly Captain, Elliot's your son, he needs you. He's a lost kid in this world and you're the only one who has been able to guide him. He listens to you, he's always looked up to to you. You're his hero."
"Thanks but, he doesn't see me in that way anymore. I don't know what changed him but I don't exist to him anymore. I think it's best if I wait in the parking lot, page me if there's an update. I'm sorry about all of this Steph." Luke gave a small wave walking out the sliding glass doors of the emergency department, his actions and words left Stephanie speechless.
Luke walked out of the ER, hands in both pockets, head low.
He wasn't paying attention and he bumped right into someone and when he picked his head up it was his wife, who was already sobbing. "Where's Elliot? What happened? What's going on?"
She was frantic throwing a million questions at Luke. Her behavior kind of scared him."Why aren't you inside? Any updates? Did you talk to him?"
"I think everything's good Sabrina." He shot back, Sabrina's face got super red because his attitude pissed her off.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean, Luke?" She raised her voice at him, throwing her hands in the air too.
"You have no idea what I just dealt with Sabrina." He shook his head still processing everything.
"My son gets rushed to the hospital and my own husband is out here playing twenty questions with me. You know how ridiculous that sounds? What are you keeping from me Luke? Answer me! Now!" Her voice got louder people were watching them near and far.
"He didn't show for his shift, and I tried calling him.. and I couldn't get through.. and I called Steph and she couldn't get through.. and then she went back to her place.. and she, she." He rambled and stuttered Sabrina standing there with her hands on her hips wanting the truth instead of excuses.
"LUKE. What happened?" Sabrina grunted.
"Steph found Elliot.. she found him on the floor, he wasn't breathing." He finally broke the news, Luke had a lump in his throat but he kept it together seeing his wife cry and scream and experience every emotional possible at this moment.
"We have no idea how long he had gone with our oxygen.. we don't know what happened, but I know it's more fault." He looked at his wife tears now brimming in his eyes, taking responsibility for what happened to their son.
"I worked him so long Sabrina.. it took me such a long time to get him breathing again..I can't let him leave this world just yet. He's basically a kid still, he has an entire life ahead of him and my own stupidity almost killed him. I'm so sorry." And that was it, Luke lost it finally letting those pent up emotions come out and he bawled taking his wife in his arms and she grabbed onto his uniform not wanting to let go.
