"Aww look at you too. My little hero's." Sabrina was melting, seeing both her husband and her son dressed and ready for their first day of work together."Mom, can you stop embarrassing me." Elliot wined, his cheeks turning red. "It's not embarrassing, I think it's cute."
"Ready?" Luke turned, keys in hand ready to go. "Yep ready as I'll ever be." Elliot responded grabbing his coffee cup and lunch ready to go.
"Bye Hun." Luke said kissing his wife's forehead heading out the door first, Elliot waved off his mother and went to the car. "Good luck, make a difference today." Sabrina called out watching the two men get into the car and take off.
It took under ten minutes to arrive at the station where Luke showed Elliot his locker and they clocked in, greeting some of the other medics on the way in.
Elliot grabbed the pagers and made sure they turned on and worked and they did, giving one to his dad and they went over to truck one and began to check the supplies to make sure they had everything they needed for the day.
Elliot was prepared to just hop right into the passenger side and get going back Luke had other plans, "Elliot can you come here for a second." He motioned wanting Elliot to step away from the passenger side door and to the back of the rig. Luke still had the rig doors opened up.
"What is it dad?"
"I want to take a photo of you sitting back here to commemorate the special day and occasion."
"Fine." Elliot jokingly side rolling his eyes sitting down for his father.
"And you're making me do this because..? His question trailed off.
"I am doing this because I have a photo album of you and your sisters sitting back here each year. If you flip through the book you'll see baby you and then Elsie appear then Eloise appear and eventually all of you are all grown up. I have eighteen years of memories of you guys."
"Oh that's sweet."
"Thanks now smile." Luke backed up holding us phone up to snap a picture. "Perfect. I'll have to print that out later. Let's go."
The two of them got in the rig and went off stationing themselves in the Target parking lot waiting for the tones to drop. It was quiet for a long time, until it wasn't anymore.
The sounds of the tones dropping kind of startled Elliot, Luke nudging him to get the feeling of taking to dispatch. "This is truck one medic two what do ya have for us?"
"Hi medic two, I just got off the phone with a young lady from Kohls who had reported that she discovered a newborn baby in the restroom, I couldn't get exact details due to a lot of background noise."
"Okay, noted. We copy loud and clear we're are four minutes out according to the GPS."
Luke floored it lights and sirens swerving around people who were too stupid to move out of the way.
They actually got theirs in three and an half minutes parking in front of the Kohls doors grabbing a couple of different bags speed walking through the entrance and into the store, people stopped in their tracks allowing them to go. Luckily a manager saw them and pointed them into the direction where they needed to go.
Workers were standing outside the bathroom "what happened? What's the problem?" Elliot took charge, some of the workers looking horrified.
Elliot stepped into the restroom first seeing a female worker and a customer standing there one of them holding a very obvious pre term child looking blue.
"What happened?"
Luke grabbed the baby into his hands and sat it down on the sink beginning his assessment. "I came in here to go to the bathroom and I looked into the toilet and there the baby was. It's not mine."
