five days later elsie came home.the hospital stay was exhausting, people kept coming in constantly to check her and she hardly got any sleep because of it. she could not wait until they said she was free to go home.
luke and sabrina took turns staying with their daughter, sleeping on the most uncomfortable reclining chair ever against the wall. sabrina was stiff and couldn't bend or move properly after a night in it.
but now Elsie was home to continue her recovery, Luke taking off an additional two weeks of work. He set up camp in his daughters room, a sleeping bag on the floor and his bag of supplies against the bed. He had everything at his fingers tips for whatever Elsie needed at a moments notice.
It took some time for Elsie to get from the car into the house and up the stairs to her room, Luke being extremely patient with her supporting her with all his strength so she wouldn't fall up or down the stairs.
He stopped at the side of her bed telling her to be extra careful sitting down and scooting over to be able to get comfortable. He fixed her pillows for her so she was able to sit up without any problems.
It was a hot September day so she requested the air conditioning to be cranked up and the fan to be on. All she wanted was a sheet over her body to stay cool.
Luke refilled her reusable water bottle with extra ice just how she likes it and set it down on her night table. "Do you need anything else? Food? Phone charger? Laptop?"
"Can you plug in the phone charger for me?" She requested, "yeah sure." Her father said bending down to plug the charger into the outlet.
"Anything else?"
"No thanks. I'm good for now." She said, smiling seeming to be way more content to be home now. "Good. Mom had to go to work and so did Elliot. Eloise is at school, so it's just you and me, kid." He grinned liking how quiet the house was for once.
"If you need me, I'll be in the office catching up on paper work. If you need something just text me the emoji we agreed upon so I know you need me ASAP."
"It's the Penguin one right?"
"Yes. Text me a Penguin when you need help or need a drink or food or something and I'll come as quick as possible. If you need the bathroom and know you can't wait for me to help you get up from bed, just pull yourself forward and swing your legs to the edge of the bed and push upward to get up. " he explained, Elsie nodding her head.
"Yes got it."
"Remember Mom said she'll help you wash your hair when she gets home. The doctor says you can't get the incision wet for up to two weeks."
"Yes I know."
"Are you sure you don't need anything else? You took your pain meds in the car didn't you?"
"Yes"
"Okay you should be good for at least three hours. Get some rest now, sweetheart its been a really exhausting last few days." He leaned over kissing her head. "I'll try."
"Good. I'm going to the office now, you want me to shut the light and door?"
"Yes please."
Luke left shutting the light and door behind him. He was hoping that he could actually get some work done despite the circumstances.
It was 1:17 in the afternoon when Elsie shut her eyes in attempt to get some sleep. At 3:58 in the afternoon the door Bell rang prompting Luke to get up from the desk and he walked downstairs and opened the door.
