Christmas and new years came and went it was now the first week of January, Luke walked into Gabys house in thick pants, snow boots, a warm jacket and a hat because the day before, there was a surprise snowstorm.
As Luke got older, he absolutely dreaded the cold weather especially when snow was involved.
He treaded throw Gabys house trying to not track snow and ice across the wood floor, making his way into her basement where she had all her podcast gear set up. This was a new set up, prior to this it was a room upstairs but she felt like it was too crammed there.
He took a seat on the brand new sofa and unzipped his jacket taking it off putting it beside him. "Hey, I'm glad you could make it! I left some hot coffee for you on the little table next you" she pointed out and Luke noticed picking it up to take a sip. He felt instantly warm as the coffee hit his tongue.
"Let's get started, don't forget your headphones!" Luke gently placed the coffee back down and slipped the headphones over his beanie making sure they fit right on his ears. He even adjusted the microphone so it would be closer to how he was sitting.
"Okay! And we're back with our first episode of the new year! I hope all my listeners out there had a great holiday and a great start to the new year! Sitting across from me is the one and only, Luke Hemmings!" Gaby introduced her friend, Luke started smiling. "Thank you Gaby it's great to be here!"
"Honestly I think it's been like six months even more since I have seen you! The last time I saw you, I was in the hospital for mental health treatment and you were one of the people on my case!"
"Oh yeah that's right! That feels like a life time ago! I'm so happy that you're in a better place now!" Luke spoke with so much pride and joy in his voice.
"I can't thank you enough. I have a lot more mental clarity now and the panic attacks have lessened and they are not as severe as they once were."
"Amazing! I don't always get to hear about patients after they leave the hospital so thank you for being a great friend and staying in contact all these years."
"Of course! You deserve so much thanks and praise for what you do out there! Seriously, I never thought I would see you in action saving a life. Are you okay with talking about what I'm referring to Luke?" Gaby asked, eyebrow raised in his direction.
"Yeah, a lot of time has gone by since then and it has a positive ending so yeah it would be a good thing to speak about."
"Perfect! Okay, so way back when I was hospitalized I was placed in a room with a teenage girl, going through a specific thing and for her privacy I won't get in specifics."
"I honestly had a feeling that you wanted to talk about this and I actually just spoke to Iris very recently because she reached out to me, and she told me she's okay with me sharing her story. She feels like this can be helpful to others"
"Okay, that sounds good! Yeah, me and Iris shared a room and honestly I'm not too sure what had happened she got really really sick very quickly after I got my bed. I'm guessing the staff wasn't on top of her case as well as they should be."
"The staff is another story for another day" Luke commented in between Gabys words.
"Anyways, I'm calling for help and Luke rushes in and sees how sick and unresponsive Iris is. And since there was no one else around he wants me to help him"
"Gaby can I just say you were awesome during this entire scenario."
Gaby smiled at Luke's compliment.
"Thank you! I never thought I would watch you carrying and run with a patient down the hallway to the showers, it felt like a scene in a tv show if I'm being totally honest"
