It was July 16th, Luke's fiftieth birthday. It started off like any other ordinary day, except for some birthday wishes from the family and a decorated kitchen to mark the occasion.
"Remember, I have 8PM reservations for all of us at the Cheesecake Factory for your special day, you and Elliot better not be home any later than seven tonight. I am not forfeiting the reservation and table because you two decided to fool around." Sabrina adjusted her husbands collar and gave him a peck on the lips.
"I promise to be home on time, just make sure you don't forget your end of the deal." He smiled softly and Sabrina smirked.
"Oh don't be so dirty minded Sabrina, not that, I'm talking about the important FaceTime call you arranged with my daughter Eloise who's away at POTs camp right now." He playfully smacked his wife's shoulder and Elsie made a gagging expression.
"Oh I knew that. Don't worry I'm aware of that and she knows too. Eloise wouldn't miss this for the world. She loves you even while being nearly three hours away."
"Perfect, thanks for all of this. Now let's hope nothing chaotic occurs today."
"Hey I thought you never said to jinx it?" Elliot chimed in, believing that his dad just cursed the day.
"Im a seasoned medic, I can say those types of things you're a rookie so it's best to not play into it."
It was actually a pretty quiet shift, there was a lot of down time.
Around lunch, Luke decided he wanted some chipotle as long as Elliot promised to pay and which he did.
They pulled up to a red light at the corner, and they were sitting waiting for it to turn green. This was a usually painful light to get stuck at no matter what time of day it was, so they waited and waited.
It eventually turned green and Luke had been in the left hand turning lane and began to turn and suddenly a car who was most likely driving on the wrong side of the road side swiped the rig on the drivers side, Luke had almost no time to react to the incompetent driver, the impact nearly flipped the truck over.
Luke's side sustained most of the damage, Elliot moaned out gripping something to try and pull himself up, "Dad!" He cried out feeling blood drip down the side of his face.
There was smoke and the strong smell of gasoline in the air. Luke didn't respond and it panicked Elliot who phoned dispatch who apparently already knew what happened and was sending help right away.
"Dad!" Elliot called out again, he was feeling weak and his vision was getting blurry, he saw his dad slumped over beside him. Elliot managed to use the shears from his pocket and he cut himself out of the seat belt first then he cut his dads off him.
Elliot cried and screamed wanting and needing for help using all his strength to kick the door open. Once he got himself out he extracted his dad noticing he was cold to the touch and unresponsive. "Dad, dad, dad please answer." He cried out yet again using all his strength yet again to place his father on the pavement away from the wreck, he did a sternum rub and it did work, "fuck fuck fuck you're not breathing" Elliot muttered getting on his hands and knees, more blood dripping off his face, and he started CPR on his father.
It was Luke's 50th birthday today yet he was in traumatic arrest and his son was performing on compressions while waiting for more medics and the fire department.
On lookers watches as this bloodied and injuries and disoriented teenager performed this action, Elliot felt a deep pain every time he pressed down, he wanted to stop so bad and just sit down but he couldn't, at this very moment he was his fathers lifeline.
