You smacked your friend. "Alex! What if he heard you say that as he was leaving?" You yelled in between laughter. "So what if he did? Maybe it'll make him take a hint. I mean, c'mon, the coffee thing, the finger under the chin, the tie comment? He's an idiot if he doesn't know," Alex said, becoming serious. "Y/N, you said he's in the FBI, right? One of my brothers is in the FBI. You know him, Aaron? I was talking to him a few days ago and Spencer came up. Do you know what exactly he does?" You nodded, frowning. "Yeah, he's a profiler. It's why I'm obvious, you moron." You slapped Alex lightly with a dishtowel. "No point in hiding something from someone who's paid to read you like a book. Hi, welcome to All Day Every Day..."
It was a Sunday, so the day went by pretty quickly. A small rush around noon, but it was easy. As five approached you grew more and more excited. "My niece and brother are in town in a few days," you said to Alex as you two were clocking out. "Oh? Sounds exciting, bring her up here if I'm at work." You nodded and pulled a jacket on. "What about you? Anything going on?"
"Going to dinner with the brother. And some friends, too. You can come if you'd like. He's heard about you, he'd love to meet. Says you sound cool," Alex said. "What time? I'd like to get changed at least." You were pretty sure you had coffee on your shirt, which was not the dinner vibe. "He's a bit out, we don't have time. You and I both know you have clothes in my car." The two of you laughed and headed to the car. "I don't have clothes in your car, you just like men that wear my size. Why do they always leave their shirts in the back, hmmm?"
"Y/N. SHUT."
When you got to the 'dinner' you laughed. It was just a bar. Alex laughed with you and grabbed your hand, dragging you to a table in the back full of laughing adults. "Alex! You made it! And who's the friend?" You heard. You couldn't speak, were staring in shock at the back corner of the table. Seriously, was this guy just everywhere? "Spencer?" You asked incredulously. He sighed and waved. A handsome black man (who's number you prayed you'd get) looked between the two of you. "My man! Have you been keeping secrets? There's no shame-"
"We're neighbors," you said in sync. "Hi, everyone, nice to meet you. I'm Y/N, Alex's friend." They all introduced themselves, and you quickly found a home in the group. They were hilarious, especially Penelope and Derek. You definitely wouldn't be trying to get his number, him and Penelope were close. Maybe not dating, but you didn't want to intrude. Aaron was hilarious; he told you countless embarrassing stories about young Alex. Apparently your bestie had always been a trouble maker. The only one who didn't seem to be having a good time was Spencer, but you decided to ignore it.
By the end of the night, both you and Alex were slightly tipsy, and most of the agents were either drunk or gone. Aaron let you know he'd be taking Alex home and asked if you needed a ride, but you politely declined. "I'll take an uber. I'm tipsy, not drunk. I'll be fine," you said confidently. Of course, someone had to disagree. "I'll make sure Y/N gets home safe. It's on the way anyways," Spencer said, grabbing your shoulder. Aaron nodded and left.
"Thanks for the croissant this morning. And the coffee," Spencer said as the two of you waited for the uber he called. "It's no problem, really. Consider it a thanks for being a good neighbor." Your companion made a noise that you couldn't quite distinguish, but you didn't care to ask. Actually, yeah, you did. "What was that?" Spencer made eye contact. "Nothing. Did you know you lean to your left when you drink? Because as someone standing to your left, I do not really appreciate it."
"I'm just cold, Doc. You give off a lot of heat." He looked taken aback for a second, then slid his jacket off and handed it to you. "Don't puke on it," was all he said about the action. Of course, you were blushing up a storm. If he asked, you'd make an excuse. The uber ride was quiet, with the exception of Spencer huffing when the driver said you made a cute couple. "We're not dating, just neighbors," you'd responded, earing another huff. As soon as you were out of the uber you teased him about it.
"What did you huff for, hmmmm? Do you like me or something? It's cause I gave you free coffee, isn't it?" You giggled at his annoyance, playfully tugging on his tie. "You have a crush on meeeee." Spencer frowned, grabbing your wrist. "No, actually, I don't. I can't stand having you as a neighbor, you talk too much and ask too many questions. I'd much rather you leave me alone," he said flatly, giving you a stern (and gentle) push backwards.
"Oh. Oh. Okay. Goodnight then. I'm sorry."
If he asked about the tear, you'd blame the alcohol.
