House-hunting with Y/N was more fun than Spencer had anticipated. She found something to love about each house they scouted. Between that and work, they both spent a lot of time on their feet. It was all they could talk about. Of course, it brought up complicated questions. Spencer and Y/N had to  consider the future. In one house tour, the realtor had turned around and asked about kids. Y/N had dissolved into a coughing fit. "Sorry?" Spencer asked, a soothing hand on her back. "You two are so sweet together, surely there's children?" Y/N straightened. "Actually, no. No children for now. Thank you though." The realtor looked flustered and apologized, but they promised it was okay.

When they got back to the apartment that night, Y/N looked like she was lost in thought. "Y/N? What's on your mind?" She shook her head, snuggling closer to him in the bed. "I'm thinking about what the realtor said. About kids. I mean, imagine little Spencers running around!" He could practically hear the wistful smile on her face. "Or little Y/N's," he said softly, kissing the side of her head. "Oh no, I prefer little you. You're smart, and kind. We need more kind." Spencer smiled and sat up, turning the lamp on to look at her. She was smiling, though there was other emotions hidden behind it. "Hey. What's really on your mind, Y/N?"

"I want kids someday but I'm scared, I guess. I didn't have the best examples growing up. My mom walked out and my dad is mental," she said. He nodded. His dad had left and his mother was a raging schizophrenic. "Have I told you about my parents?" Y/N shook her head. "Mom's in a home. She's got schizophrenia. My father walked out on us." She looked at him. "So we're in the same boat?" Spencer shook his head in response. "I'm going to use what I never had to teach me to be a good parent. If I have kids, at least," he rushed to add.

"I hope we have kids someday," she said softly. "I'd love to have a family with you," he responded. "We had a long day, Y/N. Let's get to sleep. I love you." She nodded, getting cozy as he turned off the lamp. "I love you too, Spencer."
