(A/N: Yeah hey hi, 50 chapters in, my bad for going on hiatus. I've been busy with working on my mental health. I'm not officially back, but I told myself to publish again.)

Spencer cried when he told you about Elle. You didn't see him cry like that a lot. He cried to you when Gideon left, he cried when the occasional Tobias nightmare woke him up, and he cried when you left him. (Which you felt bad about, but it was needed.) The two of you had sat kitchen for a good few hours before he wordlessly stood up and hugged you. You hadn't said anything to him about it since; not wanting to potentially upset him. Texts with Penelope revealed Elle had severe PTSD from being attacked in her own home and that she would rather keep to herself.

Penny of course asked why you wanted to know. At first, you thought about lying, It would be easier to not tell her why you wanted to track down her old teammate. But you adored her, and you knew lying to Penelope Garcia was impossible. She smiled when you explained yourself, though it was bittersweet. "I miss Elle. She really was Spencer's best friend, you know." Penny clearly appreciated your efforts, though she anticipated what you were about to say. "She doesn't want us to reach out. I already tried to. Spencer has already tried, too. Sorry, Y/N."

You left Penny's house in defeat, but not after agreeing to come over again sometime. When you got back to the apartment, it was raining, which didn't exactly help your mood. Spencer beat you home; he was putting away groceries when you stepped inside. "Hey- oh hey, you're soaked." He grabbed a blanket off the couch on his way to you and gently placed it on your shoulders. "Where'd you go?" His voice was so soft, so gentle, you couldn't make yourself lie to him. "I was with Penny. We're gonna start watching Doctor Who together so I can catch up to you," you said. It wasn't a lie, while at her house, you'd watched a few episodes.  Spencer's face lit up; you knew it was one of his favorite shows.

The rainwater in your clothes felt like it was seeping into your bones. Spencer's blanket provided little warmth. Honestly, you really just wanted a shower. And maybe to be held by your boyfriend for a minute. "You're shivering. You should dry off and warm up before you get sick," Spencer said. You nodded and started walking to his bedroom. "Y/N? Is something wrong? You're crying." Until he pointed it out, you hadn't even noticed. "Well..." Should you tell him? His eyes were concerned; his mouth a thin line. "Y/N?" No, best not. "I think it's just the rain water from my hair," you responded cheerfully.

You didn't see his confused head tilt or his unconvinced expression before you turned around.
