There was a noticeable pep in Spencer's step in the next few months. It didn't take the team long to pry it out of him, or at least part of it. Penelope was more than happy to give him tips about women, making herself his self-appointed wingwoman. He enjoyed it; having someone to go to for advice about women was actually a relief. One time she called him at four in the morning (which woke Y/N up, much to her dismay) to let him know women liked chocolate on their periods. He knew that. Compounds such as phenylethylamine, tryptophan, and theobromine that helped with the production of serotonin and endorphins. A fact which four in the morning Garcia did not care to know that.

The team tried to convince him to bring his partner around sometime, to no avail. Spencer wanted to keep Y/N private. They had no idea he was still talking to her, an illusion he was more than happy to keep. When asked why, he simply said his partner didn't want to be know. It was half the truth- he didn't want anyone to know about Y/N because he was afraid of her being targeted. Being a genius who caught criminals for a living didn't give him the most friendly following. Y/N did ask to remain private though. She didn't tell her best friend that they were dating, didn't tell her brother. Nobody knew.

Spencer and Y/N liked it like this. They each did their own thing all day, then went to the apartment of whoever was there first. Of course that meant they spent a lot of time in her place, but Spencer didn't mind. She had even cleared out an area so he could stash some of his stuff.

When Hotch called Spencer into his office, he was confused. "Is something wrong?" Spencer asked, shutting the door. He was hyper aware of the team watching through the blinds. "Reid, you seem distracted lately. You rush out of the office at the end of each day. Is something going on that we need to know about?" Hotch mostly sounded concerned, though something tugged at the back of Spencer's mind. "Did... did the team put you up to this? I'm fine, Hotch." The man sighed. "Unfortunately yes. Garcia even hacked my cell to tell me to 'demand to know a girlfriend.' Which I'm going to have to talk to her about, but that's not the point. Will you at least tell me something so the others will leave me alone?" Spencer bit back a laugh. If the others were that curious about who he was dating, maybe he'd have to talk to Y/N about it. "Who says it's a girl?" He half joked. Hotch's eyebrows shot up. "Oh?"

"I mean, I don't see why not date other men. It's more personality for me anyways," Spencer said. "I didn't know you swung that way," Hotch responded. Spencer just shrugged. "Gender isn't important. The term for it is bisexual, although I really don't feel the need to label myself or announce it. It's just a fact of life," he said, then turned to go. "I'm proud of you for at least owning up to yourself," Hotch said. "But please, for my sake, at least think about letting the team meet your significant other. I'm tired of getting emails about it."

Spencer laughed as he left the office.
