When he got to the BAU, Spencer apologized up and down for being late, glad the others all said it was okay. Of course, they all had questions about Y/N and why he was late. Morgan tried to get too many details, to which Garcia responded by smacking him and telling him to leave Spencer alone. JJ came out with Hotch, ready to present their next case. Unfortunately, it was out of state. Spencer wouldn't have a chance to talk to Y/N anytime in the next couple days. Shame; he wanted to talk to her and see where they could go from last night.
What did last night make them? They couldn't be just friends after that. Maybe if he was able to ask Morgan; he always had advice. Yet something told him he shouldn't mention this to the others. At least not for now. His business was his business. Spencer thought it over on the jet. He really wanted to ask for advice from someone, anyone. Quite literally every other member of the team could offer a tip.
"Reid. Reid, are you listening?" Hotch gave him a look. "I don't know what you've got going on outside of work, but we need you to focus. You're with Prentiss on Victimology. We need to find out what exactly the unsub is doing to these people, and how." He nodded, ignoring the 'you okay?' JJ mouthed to him.
Prentiss moved to sit next to Reid, speaking in a hushed voice. "Are you alright? The whole team can tell something is bugging you." He thought about it for a second. Could he talk to her? She was a woman, so she'd be more sympathetic, although he didn't fully know if he could trust her. She was still new to the team. Spencer decided keeping things bottled up would only hurt him in the end. "The girl I was with last night at the bar. Y/N. We're in a confusing spot." Emily seemed surprised he was so willing to open up. "How do you mean?"
"We kissed last night. And I stayed the night at her house. Not like that- we didn't do anything," he added quickly. "I don't think she wants a relationship right now, but I know she likes me." He shrugged, looking up helplessly. He'd never had this problem because he didn't really date. Prentiss nodded. "So you don't know where you stand, relationship wise." She thought for a second, then put a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Just talk to her. If you like her, make sure to express that. Be forward. Confident. If she says she's not ready for a relationship, don't push it on her. Be a friend for her. If she really likes you, that's what she needs most of all. Just you being there."
"Thanks, Prentiss." Spencer opened the case file to start reading, thinking about what she said. He really did like Y/N. If she said yes, he'd love to date her. If she said no, he'd take Prentiss's advice and stay her friend. She'd just gotten home from the psych ward, maybe all she needed right now was friends.
Even if he wanted more.
