Spencer stared at his reflection, feeling empty. "Me or the drugs," Y/N had said. She gave him a chance, and he chose the Dilaudid over her, and now she was gone. He stared at the vials, looked back at his reflection. "Fuck!" He yelled, slamming his fist onto the sink counter. Spencer sank to the floor, tears burning at his eyes. "God dammit," he whispered, reaching up for the Dilaudid.

Y/N wasn't in the coffee shop when he went the next morning. In fact, no matter when he went to get coffee, she was never there. Not for weeks. Spencer became more and more dependent on the Dilaudid to get through the day. The next time he saw Y/N, she was with a man he'd never seen before. Smiling. Laughing like he'd just told her the funniest joke ever. It made Spencer feel sick. He waited outside the apartment for her that night, but she never showed up. In fact, he waited every night for a week before he saw her again.

"Y/N! Wait. I want to talk to you," he said, just barely catching her. She clenched her jaw before turning around, exhaling loudly. "Yes, Doctor?" A nickname that once made his cheeks flush now only made his eyes burn with unshed tears. "I just-" He shook his head, unable to speak. "I-" She sighed. "Doctor, if you're just going to waste my time, then goodnight." She turned to unlock her apartment door. Spencer felt his heart shattering. If he let her go now, he'd lose her forever.

He grabbed her arm, and when she turned around her eyes were brimming with tears. "Can't you tell I don't want you in my life?" She snapped. "I gave you a choice. It was me or the drugs, and you chose the drugs. You said you loved me." Y/N let out a laugh, though there was no humor behind it. "Clearly you lied." She ripped her arm free and slammed her door in his face.
