It felt like absolute torture to go to work the next day. Spencer had purposely woken up extra early to get coffee. He'd fallen in love with the coffee shop Y/N worked at in her absence, and went every morning. On the walk there, he found himself hoping Y/N might show, but logically it was too early. Or so he thought. The second he walked in he heard a surprised 'oh' and the voice of Alex saying "Told you he's here every day."
Go figure, Y/N is back for less than 24 hours and already back at work. How she'd done that so fast was beyond him, but he'd also never done it. Maybe it was easier than he expected. "Same order?" Y/N asked him with an unexpected softness to her voice. "Yeah. Actually, can I get a croissant with it?" She nodded and got to work on making the coffee for him, chatting with Alex too quietly to be heard. Spencer had the money ready to pay when she turned back around, but she gave him a playful look. "You know I'm not taking your money," she said gently. "You could lose your job for that," he responded, unable to hide a small smile. "It's fine, I'll just use you to get me into the FBI or something." Spencer laughed at that. "You would be the coworker of Morgan's dreams; he'd love working with your jokes. Just take the money, I'll see you around, Y/N." He set it down so she couldn't argue and took his breakfast.
When he walked into the BAU he had a noticeable smile. He waved hello to everyone, which confused them, but they liked seeing their friend happy. "You look great, Spence, what's going on?" JJ asked. Morgan raised an eyebrow and grinned. "Did you find yourself a lover without telling us?" He teased. Spencer shook his head and got to work. There wasn't a new case today, but he had some paperwork to get done. The fact that it was boring did nothing to his mood, in fact he got happier as the day wore on. At the end of the day, Hotch let everyone know his wife would be meeting him at the bar and they were all welcome. Spencer pulled out his phone. He had Y/N's number memorized from the time she put it on his coffee cup six months ago, maybe she'd want to join.
- Hey, this is Spencer. We're all going to the bar soon, would you like to come join us?
Immediately she texted back, making him smile.
- if I say yes, will u buy me a drink
- I don't really like drinking, but if you'd like a couple I'll pay for them. If that's what you'd like.
- nothing would please me more than a doctor buying me alcohol
- I'm not that kind of doctor, Y/N.
- Nobody has to know that, Doctor.
He laughed, waving it away when the others all looked at him. "Is that... Doctor Reid using his phone for recreational activities?" Garcia asked, clearly surprised. "I thought you didn't care much for technology?" Reid sent one final text and looked at everyone, clearing his throat. "I'd still like to be able to communicate with other people," he said after two minutes of silence. Morgan snickered. "I still think you got a side piece we know nothing about, but whatever you say, pretty boy."
