Sara's pov

"It's so fucking heavy..." I groaned in Spanish as I set down a barrel of vegetable broth.

"Watch your mouth!" My mother yelled from somewhere behind Papa's Stall while she got the veggies ready to sell.

"Sorry," I mumbled in English.

"I bet you wish you could use magic to lift that," Mateo giggled while he sat on the stall and played with his new wand. "It would be easier wouldn't it."

"Ugh! Mama! Yell at him. He's picking on me in English!" I yelled to her in Spanish.

"Mateo! Don't be mean to your sister. She lost her magic,"

"Mama please..." I tried to stop her but she kept going.

"Saving people! She should be celebrated!" She finally finished.

"You grounded me." I reminded her.

"Only for a week. And it was for getting hurt." She shrugged before going back to her work.

"You squibs open?" An older man walked up asking in Spanish.

"Listen here!" I started to yell before Mateo spoke up.

"Why don't you get out of here old man! Your magic probably sucks!" Mateo jumped off the stall and stood between the old man and I. "They aren't Squibs!"

"Mateo stop we are," I mumbled pulling him back.

"That kid needs to learn manners."

"So do you and you don't see me complaining yet." I snapped.

The man pulled his wand out to try to scare me but clearly he had no idea all the shit I've been through. "Wanna keep talking?" He asked.

"Do it," I dared him getting an inch from his face.

"No! No don't do it!" My father ran up dropping his cart and pulling me away. "I'm sorry sir, we'll be open shortly." He smiled apologetically before turning away and pushing me away. "Princesa!" He warned.

"He's a bitch." I said in English.

"I speak English," the old man said to me in English.

"Then I can insult you in two languages!" I yelled while my dad had to pick me up by the waist and carry me away.

"What is your deal?" He asked me once the customer couldn't hear us.

"He was rude!" I said in English so my mom couldn't also yell at me.

"So? He's a customer!"

"You have a lot of customers! You don't need him." I gestured towards the man as he walked away.

"You have been insufferable for weeks now." My dad admitted staying in English. "What is wrong?" He asked softly.

"Nothing." I said flatly.

"She would have graduated recently had she stayed in school..." Mateo whispered loudly.

"Shut up Mateo!" I yelled making my dad smack the top of my head with some greens he was putting on display. "Sorry,"

"Is that why Princesa?"

I rolled my eyes at the nickname. "Can I not help out today, please?" I asked simply.

"Yeah... head on home. Get Antonio's bed ready in the guest room. He'll be visiting soon from America."

The golden child.
