"Oh my gosh." I said as I weirdly walked over to our bed. Janet laughed as she held an ice pack in between her legs.
"You're in the same pain as me so don't laugh."
"My boobs hurt too." She said and whined.
"When we were younger we could take the pain but now we can't."
"Cause we're old." Today Janet and I decided to get our nipple and clit piercings back since we took them out to have children and boy that pain is worse than before. Well, I had my nipples pierced after Desiree but not my clit, so that's what we did today. It didn't hurt this bad when we first got it. My phone rang and I picked it up seeing that it was a FaceTime call from Tamar.
"Hello?"
"Hi, what are y'all freaks doing?"
"Nothing, why we have to be freaks?"
"Because you guys are. Why does Janet have an ice pack— OH YOU FUCKED HER GOOD TONI?!!" Janet cackled and I laughed.
"Toni— ohhhh good plastic dick."
"Okay, Tamar that's enough." I said trying not to laugh but I cracked anyway.
"Just telling it like it is. Anyways why does she have an ice pack?"
"We got our piercings back and they hurt even worse than before."
"Cause y'all too old for that. Y'all have five kids and are one hundred years old, leave that for the young folks."
"Do you have one?"
"No."
"Okay then, so what young folks are you talking about?" Tamar cackled and I shook my head.
"Not you and your wife, that's for sure."
"Anyways, why did you call me?"
"Umm, I don't know. I did have to tell you something but I forgot."
"That means that it wasn't important." Janet said and I nodded.
"Exactly."
"Whatever but when I remember I'll call you back but how's Skais leg?"
"Good, she told us that she didn't want us to help her so much because of her leg being broken." Janet said and Tamar cackled.
"Tore you up, didn't it Janet?"
"Sure did but I'm glad that she can talk to us about her feelings." We stayed on the phone for a bit before I went to go and pick up the kids. Azuree and King's baby experiment was only for three days and today they get their grades back. I went to Desiree's school to pick her up first and saw her standing outside along with the other kids. She had her arms folded across her chest and a frown on her face. I got out of my car and walked over to her. When she saw me she met me halfway.
"What's the matter, baby? Did something happen in school?"
"I don't wanna talk about it now Mommy, is that okay?" She softly said and I nodded. We got in the car and I drove to the other school. Soon all of my children were in the car and we drove home. When we got there, Desiree was the first to get out and she walked inside.
"What's the matter with her?" Janet questioned and I shrugged.
"I don't know baby, she wouldn't tell me."
"I hope nothing happened to her in school, like nobody bothered her."
"Same." While everyone was finishing their work, I made dinner and when we ate, Desiree was silent the whole time. I wonder what's wrong with her to make her not talk.
"Ma ma." Eissa babbled while tapping my legs. I picked him up and he laid on my shoulder. I could tell that he is tired because he didn't have his nap today. He was too busy playing with the dogs. I headed to his room to bathe him and saw Desiree come out of hers.
"Mommy, I'm ready to tell you now."
"Okay, do you want to tell me now or after I put your brother to bed?" She was about to answer but got cut off by Janet.
"You can go ahead and talk to her baby, I got him." She took Eissa away from me and I nodded. Desiree and I walked into her room and she sat on her bed.
"Okay, now what's the matter?"
"I haven't seen Rose in two weeks mommy, two whole weeks." She said and I looked at her. All of this because she hasn't seen her friend?
"Did she say she was moving or something?"
"No, but she has cancer Mommy that's the point. That's why I'm sad because I'm scared that she... you know."
"Yes I do know baby but did the teacher tell you guys anything?"
"No."
"Okay, so I'm pretty sure that Rose is fine and it's okay to worry but if she's not back by next week then I'll see if I can get her mother's number from the principal. Sounds good?"
"Yes, thank you, mommy."
"You're welcome."
"How come you always know what to do?"
"Because I'm a mother." I said and she laughed.
"You feel better?"
"Yes and sorry if I was mean to you."
"You weren't mean to me baby, you were just quiet and it concerned me." She hugged me and I kissed her forehead. I got up and headed downstairs seeing Janet lying on the couch with Eissa on her chest.
"What did she say?"
"She said that Rose hasn't been in school and she was scared because she has cancer—"
"She doesn't want her to be dead." Janet finished for me and I nodded.
"Yup, and I informed her that if she doesn't come to school next week then I'll try to get her mother's number from the principal."
"Good mommy Toni." I laughed and kissed her cheek.
"Where's Ms. Independent?"
"In the shower." As soon as she said that we heard a loud thud.
"That's wasn't me! It was the soap bottle!" I heard Skai say and I nodded.
"I was scared for a quick second."
"I was too. It's good that our kids can speak to us."
"And we listen to them but sometimes they talk too much." I said and Janet laughed. She put Eissa in his playpen and sat back next to me. I laid my head on her chest and Janet wrapped her arms around me.
"I love you, baby."
"I love you too."
