Wuji: A Promise Kept

Wei Wuxian sprawled out on the bed inside the Jingshi once he and Wangji returned home. It was a long day. The conversation with Jiang Cheng wasn't bad at all. The one thing that got Wuxian a bit too worked up about was that female head disciple of Jiang Cheng's. He wants to give the girl a chance but if she is going to be that shameless every time they are around each other, he will refuse to have her anywhere near him or Wangji.

Lan Wangji gathered fresh night robes for Wuxian and himself. Lan Wangji then prepared a bath, "did you want to bathe first?" Wangji asked.

Wuxian sat up, "sure, I appreciate it," he said.

"Mnn," Wangji said helping him off the bed, "you look like you need to relax a bit."

"My head hurts," Wuxian said as he pouted out his bottom lip.

Wangji's lips curled up into a smile, "did you want me to get you something for the pain?" He asked. Wuxian sighed and shook his head. Wangji chuckled and placed a kiss on Wuxian's forehead, "what about some Emperor's Smile?"

"Huh?" Wuxian questioned.

Wangji's smile grew as he left the room momentarily. He then came back with two jars of Emperor's Smile, "here," he said.

"You snuck in wine for me?" He asked.

"Not necessarily snuck in," Wangji said, "Shufu and Xiongzhang know it's here. They know you like to drink so you are exempt from the no alcohol rule...within reason of course."

"Let me guess, keep it within the Jingshi?" Wuxian asked.

Wangji nodded, "You can go outside of course."

Wuxian smiled, "honestly, it's fine to be able to drink just in here, Thank—I mean, I love you," he said.

Wangji shook his head amused, "I love you too, Wei Ying, now go take your bath."

Wuxian nodded and took a jar of wine with him. After his bath, he still had half of the jar left so he just relaxed at his desk to finish it as he waited for Wangji to finish his bath. His mind soon went back to Xia Feng and how annoyed and angry he got with her. Wuxian folded his arm across his chest as he realized he had drank a little bit of vinegar at the time. He knows that Wangji won't leave him but it got to Wuxian's head. Wangji exited the bathroom after taking care of the bath water and his eyes immediately went to his pouting partner.

Wangji smiled and thought, cute.

"Wei Ying?" Wangji asked as he sat beside him. Wuxian glanced at him, still pouting. Wangji still found it cute, "why are you pouting?"

"I can't get that girl out of my head. She dared to flirt with you in front of me," Wuxian explained still pouting like a child, "I didn't like it."

Wangji smiled, "you do not need to worry or be jealous. I am not going to leave you. All I want is you."

Wuxian nodded, "I know, it's just my brain thinking too much."

Lan Wangji wrapped his arms around Wuxian's waist and pulled him to his lap. He placed a kiss on Wuxian's cheek before speaking, "You already overwork that wonderful brain of yours. You should let it rest."

"I can't," Wuxian said pouting again, "my head doesn't like to shut off."

"You should meditate then, see if it helps you relax," Wangji suggested.

"But...I don't want to move," Wuxian replied.

Wangji held Wuxian's face in his hands, "do you have to be so adorable?" Wangji asked, "you pouting like this is too cute."

"Lan Zhan," Wuxian whined.

"I mean it," Wangji said, "and if you don't want to move, you can just chill here as you meditate."

"I'm okay like this," Wuxian said as he snuggled up into Wangji's chest.

Lan Wangji's smile only grew. The more he was around Wuxian, the more he realized that Wuxian loves to be babied by those he loves. He does not act this way with certain people but he has seen it with only two other person and that was with Wen Qing, and his Shijie. If there was anyone else close to Wuxian, he'd act all childish. Wangji has seen him try this on Jiang Cheng but it only failed. If Wangji was now the only person to "baby" him like this then he would be perfect fine with that.

Wangji noticed changes in Wuxian several times. He was shameless and mischievous when they first met. When they were together looking for the yin iron, he was shameless but he was serious when the time called for it. After the ambush of Lotus Pier, his golden core was gone, and he lived in the burial mounds for three months, Wei Wuxian became a completely different person. He wasn't that shameless and mischievous man Wangji once knew.

Seeing him again after those three months, Wangji had a gut feeling that Wuxian went through something that caused him to become cold and distant. Even go as far as use an unorthodox path. Wei Wuxian became more bold, and many called him arrogant and a monster because of that. After Wei Wuxian died, Lan Wangji felt that it wasn't entirely real. He didn't want to believe that Wuxian was gone.

After so many years of waiting, Wuxian returned and he became...distant once more. Wangji couldn't blame him though. After the entire cultivation world turned their back on him, how could he trust anyone. Somehow, Wangji managed to have some trust in Wuxian. Wuxian wouldn't have followed him and vice versa if he didn't.

After learning about Wei Wuxian's golden core, Wangji's affection grew for Wuxian, but his heart ached. Wangji had learned the process of giving up a golden core and how Wei Wuxian could have died from it. Wuxian suffered alone and didn't tell anyone about it. Wangji was angry with himself for not noticing sooner but how could he have known.

After parting on that mountain, Wangji and Wuxian spent two years away from each other. Wuxian traveled for a while, and Wangji managed the sect as his brother was dealing with his grief. After some time, Wangji went back for Wuxian. Now Wuxian was here in his arms, pouting, whining, being playful and acting like a little toddler, but it was all to get more attention and affection out of Wangji.

After relaxing on the bed, Wangji leaning against the headboard of the bed as Wuxian snuggled up to him, Wangji decided to get a bit more comfortable. It was late and close to sleeping hours. Wangji got comfortable all the while Wuxian was still nuzzled up to him. Wuxian didn't wake or budge much at all as Wangji moved to lay down. All Wangji could do was shake his head in amusement. He placed a kiss on Wuxian's forehead before falling asleep himself.
