~*Author's/3rd POV~
It was later that night and Wangji and Wuxian had just finished a bath. They were now preparing for bed but Wuxian was more distracted. Wangji noticed and just let him sit and relax on the bed while Wangji took care of the candles and everything else.
"How are you feeling?" Wangji asked Wuxian after he settled in bed beside him.
"I don't know," he answered, "it's still something I'm trying to take in...they brought my shijie to the meeting...she died because of that."
"She would want you to try and move on. Jin Guangyao and Su She are gone and they won't bother you ever again," Wangji assured him.
"She'd be alive if he didn't bring her there," Wuxian said. Being that he still is master of yin energy, his emotions were getting to him. His anger and sadness were mixing together and creating a cloud of resentment around him, "I didn't care about my life. Her dying was the final straw and those cultivators knew that! They all yelled saying I killed her but when I crushed that bastard's neck in my hand, I went crazy."
"Wei Ying, try to calm down, you are drawing out a lot of resentment," Wangji said. He could sit there and not be hurt or affected by it as he was Wuxian's soul-bond.
"I'm trying," Wuxian said as his eyes turned crimson red. Trying to calm down was only making it worse. Something completely new began to happen too. Thunder rumbled through the sky. It was like the weather was changing due to Wuxian's anger. Wangji sent a message to his brother that he might need his help.
Lan Xichen came running when he got the message. When he entered, he had not expected to see Wuxian so angry...it has been a long time since he saw this kind of rage coming from him. Lan Qiren even came running not long after as he was concerned by the sudden change in weather.
"What happened?" Lan Qiren asked.
"Wei Ying finally spoke to his shijie today," Wangji answered, "he was told something that is taking a bit hard."
"What did she say?" Xichen asked, "I haven't seen him like this in a long time."
"Wei Ying asked her how she got to Nightless City the night she died," Wangji replied. He was hesitant to say more as his brother was still dealing with the aftermath of Jin Guangyao as well. He was doing better but he was still hurt.
"How?" Lan Qiren asked.
Wangji looked at his brother, " Wangji whatever happened is affecting him and we need to help him calm down," Xichen said.
"Yanli said Jin Guangyao told her where to find Wei Ying and Su She brought her there. It was planned, most likely. Su She was there to alter Chenqing, so it was only after Yanli showed up that the puppets lost control," Wangji said, "Wei Ying has had the guilt of her death haunting him for this long."
"This news is basically the final blow," Lan Qiren said and looked at Wuxian. Behind the resentful energy, he saw pain and frustration in Wuxian's eyes, "Wei Ying, what happened to your sister was a terrible thing. I know you are hurting over her death but I know she would want you to move on. She didn't tell you this so you can continue to sit in anger and pain. She hoped it would help give you some answers and remove some of that pain."
Wuxian looked at Lan Qiren and his rage went down. Somehow, this man who had hated him in the past has become a person who understands him more than most. He saw Wuxian's story play out through empathy so he knows the pain Wuxian went through.
"I never wanted her to die for me," Wuxian said as the resentment went away but the tears kept flowing, "I never wanted any of that to happen back then, but every choice I made had me losing someone. I lost Wen Qing and my shijie around the same time, and it hurt. It still hurts."
"There is not a single day that goes by where I wish I could see my brother again," Lan Qiren said, "he loved deeply as Wangji does. If I saw things more clearly through his eyes I would have helped him better. I tried to help his wife too, and I do miss her too. The tragedy they went through left my nephews without parents but I lost a brother and a sister too. Believe it or not, when I heard that your parents passed away, I almost couldn't believe it. No matter how annoying your mother was, she was still a wonderful person. Your father, my brother, and I were close friends. Even with Jiang Fengmian. That man let his wife hurt his best friend's son when he should have been there more for you. What I am trying to tell you is that, people die all the time. It's only up to us on whether we can move forward from it. All those people may be gone, but you can still see them any time you want. You can see spirits and even visit their world. Pain and loss are a part of life but you need to use it to gain strength to heal."
Wuxian nodded, "thank you, Shufu."
Lan Qiren patted his shoulder, "it will be okay. You are strong and you are a fighter. I know you can overcome this."
"I will," Wuxian said. Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen eventually left and Wangji sat down next to Wuxian, "I'm sorry."
Wangji smiled and pulled him into a hug, "it's alright. You can be angry. You have a right to be. Just be careful because you are still carrying all the resentment in you. I know you can control it but I'd hate for you to get hurt of do something that you'd later regret."
"I understand," Wuxian said, "but I could use some of my husband's love to help me feel better."
Wangji grinned and pinned Wuxian down underneath him as he activated the privacy charm on the wall of their room and the lock talisman on their door, "I know exactly how to make that happen," Wangji said and ravished his husband as requested.
