"Ignoring the busy broad road I will stick to my single-plank bridge."
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji's journey ended once the two separated on that secluded mountain. After a couple years, the two meet again.
What will their meeting entail?
What will...
"As long as the sea is bound to wash upon the sand, and the stars are above you, we will meet again." . . . __________
The sky was blue as ever, and the sun warmed the skies and the lands. A young man clad in black, his hair dark as raven's wings, and a crimson red ribbon contrasting the ensemble made for an ethereal picture. The young man had his infamous black bamboo flute, Chenqing, at his lips. The young man's fingers danced across the holes of Chenqing as he played a song that was made just for him and one other person. A person who he hoped he'd see again someday. It's been almost two years since they parted at this very place in the mountains. Hoping he could hear his deep angelic baritone voice just once more.
"Wei Ying?"
The music stopped abruptly. The man clad in black stood there for a moment trying to figure out if he heard his name being said or if he was imagining it.
"Wei Ying?"
This time, he was certain that the voice was real. The man clad in black slowly brought his flute to his side and smiled before turning around. It was him, it was really him. The one he longed to see after two long years.
"Lan Zhan?"
The man before him was clad in white robes and sacred forehead ribbon to match. His hair was long and dark, his skin was fine as jade, and his eyes were the perfect shade of gold. The duo of black and white were together in one place again. The two felt connected as if they'd been together for years. Since they parted, they both have felt a piece of each other missing. They now knew what it was that was missing, their other half.
"Wei Ying, come back to Gusu with me."
"Lan Zhan, you still wish to punish me?"
"Never wished to punish you, Wei Ying. Wish to love and protect you."
The man clad in black, Wei Wuxian, looked up at his friend before him. He searched those golden eyes for answers. He searched for truth and sincerity.
Had he been wrong about his friend the entire time?
He had spent the last few months before parting two years ago with him. The two were on a journey to seek the truth. They found the truth and found that Wei Wuxian was never a criminal. He was not the one who killed two heirs. His name was cleared. Lan Wangji had always wanted to be with his friend. It was only now that Wei Wuxian was seeing his friend before him in a different light.
"Love...and...protect..me?" Wei Wuxian asked.
"I have long wanted to tell you what my heart feels for you, but I did not want you to feel caged," Lan Wangji said.
"Caged?" Wei Wuxian asked.
"You do not like my sect Principles," Lan Wangji said, "but my heart still yearns for you."
"When did you...start to like me? I thought for the longest time that you hated me, and only tolerated me for so long...but you stuck with me for so long since I came back..."
"Wei Ying, I think I have always liked you, but I was never good at expressing myself. It was only after you went missing for those three months that I realized that I had feelings for you," Lan Wangji told him.
"You—"
"Never hated you," Lan Wangji interrupted.
Wei Wuxian was a bit stunned, shocked even. He had always wanted to at least be friends with the young Jade but now that Wangji was confessing his heart out to him, Wei Wuxian was starting to understand why he always liked to tease the man. It wasn't just to get reactions out of him, but he genuinely wanted to get his attention, wanted to feel like he was important to him...to someone even. Tears started to form in Wei Wuxian's eyes.
"Lan Zhan, I no longer cultivate, I cannot reach immortality and I will not live the long life a cultivator would. Normally the sacrifice summon will cause the spirit to take over the body of the person who cast the spell but somehow, Mo Xuanyu found my original body and I am back in it. I want to give you the love and support and everything that you deserve, but I have nothing to my name. I do not have a clan to call home, I do not have family, and I do not have any I can give back to you. How could you say that you still want me to be with you?"
"I still love you Wei Ying," Lan Wangji said, "and we will find a way. If you are forever a demonic cultivator, I will still love and support you. I will make compromises with the clan elders and Shufu, that I will be the only one to punish you and you will be okay if you don't follow all of them. Cloud Recesses can be your home. Xiongzhang came out of his seclusion early and wanted to get back to running the clan to busy his mind. I even gave him the chief cultivator position. I am here with you so I can get you back."
"Will your clan really accept someone like me? I am everything that is forbidden to your clan," Wei Wuxian said.
"Shufu and Xiongzhang already know I am out to find you. Shufu may take time to accept you but he wants me to be happy. Just like my brother as well...though Shufu had a request for you if you decide to come."
"What is his request?" Wei Wuxian asked.
"He wants to sit down with you and do an Empathy session on you. He wants to really see for himself all that happened to you," Lan Wangji said.
Wei Wuxian sighs and looks up at Lan Wangji, "if I go back with you, can I have a couple days before I do empathy? That is a big ask."
"Mnn," Lan Wangji nodded and took Wuxian's hand, "please come back with me. Cloud Recesses will be your new home and your new clan. You will be my cultivation partner."
"Before I say yes completely, think about this one more time, do you really want to associate yourself with me? My name still carries a lot of weight," Wuxian said.
Lan Wangji placed a hand on either side of Wuxian's face and lightly kissed him on the lips. He let the chaste kiss linger for a moment before pulling away, "I am sure."
Wuxian giggled as he gripped onto the collar of Wangji's robes and pulled him back in to kiss him. This time, it was much more aggressive and open. Both of them seeking union. The kiss was something that the two desperately needed to happen as the two had that back to taste one another.
