Vanessa's POV
*today is a very exciting day for our family ! It's the Chicago PD award ceremony and i have been nominated for the most improved officer in Chicago ! And what makes it even more special is that I get to go to this award ceremony with my husband jay and my 3 kids and also with everyone from my unit ! But Hank gave us the day off so we could spend the day to get ready for this very special event ! The event is at 5:30 and it's currently 3 so I decided to get in the shower and get myself ready before I get the kids ready*
Ness:alright I'm getting in the shower and when I get out and finish getting ready I'm going to start getting you kids ready ok?!
Lexi:ok mommy !
*I head upstairs to the shower and after I'm finished I get changed into my dress*

*I put this dress on and I curled my hair and put on a a pair of heels and some makeup before headed into lexis room to see if she's ready*

*she has this dress on and I curled her hair for her and did some light makeup on her and she put on a a pair of fancy shoes and when we walked downstairs jay,Noah and Kaiden were all in black suits and dress shoes*
Jay:well don't you ladies look pretty
Lexi:thank you daddy !*does a twirl*
Jay:your welcome princess *smiles*
Ness:now when we go to this award ceremony you all need to be on your best behaviour do you understand ? You sit down at the table I got paper and crayons for you do draw and you stay in your seat the entire time
Jay:Remember you are in a room full of cops and we are sat at a table with everybody from our unit
Noah:I'll be good dad I promise
Jay:I know you will bud
Kaiden:me to ! I'll be a good boy
Jay:and so will you bud
Ness:Lexi?! Do you promise to be a good girl ?
Lexi:yes mommy I promise
Ness:k let's get in the car does everyone have everything they need ?
Jay:think so
Ness:k let's roll
*we headed out to the suv and drove to the hotel where the event was taking place*
Ness:now when we get out we all stay by mommy and daddy and hold someone's hand ok?
Kaiden:yes mommy
Lexi:yes mommy
Noah:ok mom
Ness:alright let's get out
*jay parked the car and we all got out of the car and headed in side by side*
Guard:can I have your name please ?
Ness:detective Vanessa Halstead district 21 intelligence
Guard:and you are ?
Jay:detective Jay Halstead district 21 intelligence
Gaurd:and your guests ?
Ness:Noah Halstead ,Lexi Halstead and Kaiden Halstead our children
Gaurd:alright you can head in and someone will give you further instructions at the next door
Ness:thank you !
*we headed in to the building and once we got to the 2nd door we saw a lady*
Lady:alright are you the Halstead's ? District 21
Ness:that's us
Lady:alright you guys are at table 8 along with the others from your district
Jay:sounds good thank you !
*we headed in and found table 8 and we saw Hank and Kevin there already*
Hank:hey Halstead's
Ness:hey sarge , Kevin
Noah:mommy can I sit by uncle Kevin ?
Ness:you sure can
*we sat down at the round table with Noah next to kevin and then kaiden,Lexi ,me and Jay *
Hank:is this your first ever awards banquet? *he asks the kids*
Noah:I've been to one before
Lexi:I've never been to one
Kaiden:me either
Hank:well your going to have a lot of fun
Lexi:I hope so
*I hand out the paper and crayons for Lexi and Kaiden but Noah decided to sketch something in his sketch book and shortly after the other showed up*
Erin:hey everyone! *smiles*
Ness:hey Erin !
Erin:oh my goodness look at you 3 all grown up
Jay:scary isn't it
Erin:sure is ! *smiles*
Adam:hey everyone sorry we are a bit late
Hank:your actually quite early if I do say so myself
Adam:really !
Kim:oh my goodness the Halstead kids are so grown up
Erin:that's what I said !
Kim:how old are you all know ?
Noah:I'm 9
Lexi:I just turned 7 !
Kaiden: I am 5 years old
Kim:oh my goodness ! It seems like yesterday you all were newborns
Ness:right ! It's crazy to think that Noah will be turning double digits !
Adam:oh yeah I never thought about that
*we all chatted a bit before the head of the Chicago police department went up on the stage*
HC:hello everyone and welcome to our annual Chicago police department award ceremony ! My name is Chief Alan walker as you all know and I'm the head of the Chicago police department! We are going to start our award ceremony with the best Sargent award of 2023 and this year the best Sargent award goes out to Sargent Derek Windsor of district 56 ! Please come up and accept your award
*Derek goes up on stage and accepts his award and says a few words before going back to his seat*
HC:alright congratulations Sargent Derek Windsor of district 56 ! Now we are going to do the most improved officer award and this year we had 13 nominees for this award and it was tuff decision to choose just 1 but this year the most improved officer is detective Vanessa Halstead from district 21
*I stood up and everyone started clapping and I was in complete shock so I headed up to the stage and accepted my award and I then said a few words*
Ness:I'm in complete shock right now if I'm going to be completely honest ! I didn't see this coming at all *smiles* I've had it ruff my first few years as a detective here in Chicago so when I found out I was nominated for the most improved officer I nearly cried but I definitely would not have been nominated if it wasn't for my amazing Sargent Hank Voight and my lovely co workers that I get to call my friends and one of them my husband ! *smiles* so thank you all very much !!
*I took the award and sat back down at the table and we all sat and ate our food while people spoke some lovely words and when the award ceremony was over we took some photos before heading home*
