GENEVIEVE CLARK

The kitchen is bathed in warm sunlight as I stand at the stove, an apron wrapped around me in a rare display of culinary enthusiasm.

Today is Harry's 27th birthday, and our kitchen is a hub of activity. I'm tasked with cooking bacon, Amber is skillfully flipping pancakes on the griddle, Gemma arranges fresh berries, and Harry, who we convinced should not be cooking his own birthday breakfast, is seated at the counter with Avery in his lap, playing peek-a-boo.

I'm still in my pyjamas, rocking a pair of sweatpants and a snug long sleeve, proudly displaying my baby bump. My hair is lazily tied up in a messy ponytail, and I've opted for a makeup-free look, embracing the comfort of this laid-back morning.

I smile as I watch Avery take a sharpie out of the pen cup on the bench, and pass it to Harry, gesturing him to sign her cast. He's already written his name 3 times on it, and it's only 8 am.

She hasn't left his side all morning.

Being in the second trimester of my pregnancy has come with relief from morning sickness but introduces new sensations – back pain, tender breasts, and I feel huge.

My cravings have also made a familiar return, particularly for the same thing I craved with Avery, peanut butter.

James moved out earlier this week, and I've noticed a subtle quietness settling into the house. It's a change that takes some getting used to. On a brighter note, Amber seems to be doing a lot better, at least that's what I've observed.

As we finish cooking breakfast, Avery's excitement fills the air. "Can I give Daddy present?" she asks, her eyes sparkling.

I smile and reply, "Soon, baby. Just let me finish, okay?" We all gather round for breakfast, and Harry compliments the meal, expressing his gratitude.

Avery, persistent in her eagerness, chimes in, "Present?"

"Okay, Ave," Harry agrees, and Avery presents him with a little wrapped box and a handmade card. Scribbles and stickers adorn the card, a masterpiece crafted by our creative two-year-old.

Harry looks at the card, then up at me, quietly laughing. "Wow, babe. Thank you!" he says excitedly. Inside the box is a gold ring with a bunny design, something I saw in a shop months ago and knew would be the perfect gift for him.

His face lights up as he opens it up. "Thank you, baby. I love it," Harry says, giving me a sweet kiss.

Avery, observing the moment, declares, "Daddy, it's a bunny like me!"

She helps Harry put the ring on his finger, and with a proud nod, assures him, "Does it suit me?" Avery nods again, sealing the morning with smiles, kisses, and the joy of a perfect, bunny-themed gift.

Gemma and Amber's thoughtful gifts have Harry expressing his gratitude, saying thank you to everyone.

The doorbell rings, and Gemma watches as I stand up to answer it."Oh no, Gen, you sit down, I can do it. I think it's Michal." Gemma offers, her concern evident.
