"umm nothing's going on, why don't you leave? I'm sure you have patients to look after." Akshara whispered, closing her eyes hoping that he would do exactly that. But when she could feel the heat of his glare on her cheeks, she opened her eyes to meet his cold, hard stare.
"You're delusional if you think I am leaving" he gritted out before turning towards the brigade waiting around for them.
"Akshara beta?" the minister, came over to her and she could tell the worry was obvious on his face.
"Ashok uncle, I am ok. Please you didn't have to come all the way here for this." Her insides shuddered at the realization that he had brought the police commissioner with him. "How- uh how did you find out?" she would make sure whoever ratted on them wouldn't do it again because Diksha was a flight risk on a good day and now that this had happened it would definitely be harder to convince her to stay put.
"Shanta Tai called me" her boss but more her mentor said in a stern voice.
"Please Uncle... don't" she said nervously glancing over at Diksha who looked like she had lost all color and her eyes kept pleading with Akshara.
"Hello, I am Dr. Abhimanyu Birla and I am Akshara's-" She had almost forgotten Abhimanyu was in the room and when she hurriedly shook her head at him hoping he would stop talking immediately but her husband was nothing if not stubborn, ignoring her pleas he continued "Uh I'm the doctor here, may I please know what's going on?" Ohooo where was all this politeness coming from? Not once had he used this tone on her. Suddenly she was pissed, her previous worry leaving her as fury replaced it.
The minister looked at Abhimanyu with heart eyes and Akshara groaned internally, here we go another member in the Dr. Abhimanyu Birla is the greatest fan club.
"Aah Abhimanyu, so great to finally meet you. I am great friends with your father, but I'm mad at him for not inviting me to your wedding." Akshara was sure her face reflected the same discomfort his currently did, but the pink tinting his cheeks was so funny that if it was any other situation she would have laughed out loud. "sorry it was a small ceremony" he mumbled.
"Abhimanyu beta, can we talk somewhere privately? I need Akshara to give her statement to the police" Akshara startled in alarm at that but before she could open her mouth Abhimanyu piped up.
"Sorry Sir but Akshara has sprained her ankle, and I would rather she stay here for a bit, we haven't had a chance to look at her results or wrap it up." She was irritated to note a hint of worry in his voice. She didn't have time for this dammit. The clock was ticking and Diksha would run away if she didn't nip this in the bud.
One of the constables walked over to Diksha but Akshara yelled loudly "No, nobody talks to her." She threatened and thankfully the commissioner pulled his officer back.
"Ok, everyone clear the room" The commissioner related to his staff and the Minister's security as well as the other doctor treating Diksha, before he walked over to akshara and let Abhimanyu know that he should leave too.
"Forgive me but I won't be moving from Akshara's side" he stated so arrogantly that even the police commissioner was taken aback. When he glanced at Akshara to check if she was okay with it, she had to agree. She couldn't deal with Abhimanyu's drama and she knew the monster wouldn't leave until he heard the truth.
"Ok now that it's just us please give me the full details." The commissioner asked as kindly as he could manage.
"I will but only I will, as Diksha's representative I won't let her talk to you unless she wants to." Only when he and the minister nodded did Akshara get into the details,
