After Akshara and the girls left, Abhimanyu had turned to Nimay to ask him what the hell had happened but he looked as lost as Abhimanyu, shrugging his shoulders and throwing his hands up in the air.
"What did I do?" he asked Abhimanyu in desperation but his friend's plight was borderline funny and all he could do in response was laugh loudly, "Just apologize dude" he said which he knew wasn't really helpful but it was the only advice he had plus for once he wasn't in the crossfire and it wasn't Akshara who was mad at him.
Trying not to let his amusement show, he walked out of his office with Nimay and Rutu who was trailing behind them silently until he heard her say "Your wife is very sweet" from behind him. A small twinge of pride ran through Abhimanyu every time someone said "his wife" for Akshara and this time was no different and he threw a grin back at Rutu making her blink up at him in shock before she smiled at him in return "I am the luckiest man alive" he said shrugging his shoulder before turning to console Nimay.
Frowning as he remembered Akshara's words, he turned his head to Nimay who still looked like someone had kicked his puppy "Akshara said 'you tell me' as she was leaving when I asked her why Diksha was mad. Maybe she'd know?" Nimay instantly perked up at his words, "Can you ask her???" he said but before Abhimanyu could nod, he was taking his phone out "Forget it, I'll ask her." Abhimanyu had to do everything in his power to stop the stab of jealousy taking root in his stomach but he still couldn't stop the grumpy "Don't text my wife" from leaving his mouth which Nimay steadfastly ignored, dancing out of reach as Abhimanyu raised his hand to smack the phone out of his hold. To annoy him further, Nimay typed speedily giggling like a schoolgirl at whatever Abhimanyu's wife had responded with. What was she saying that was this funny anyway?
"Stop texting Nimay" he typed out furiously to his wife but like expected, Akshara only sent a rolling eye emoji to him while she probably sent a long ass essay to Nimay. This wasn't fair at all. Why did Nimay get to text his wife and talk to her, laugh with her but he got an eye roll in response? Before he could lament on it further, Rutu who Abhimanyu had forgotten about completely, grabbed his arm, startling him suddenly.
"Abhi, the patient? We have to go for rounds as well and you said you'll brief me on the upcoming surgeries." Shit, this had totally slipped his mind but in all fairness that was usually the case whenever he saw Akshara and while he had not expected her to be at the hospital, he was speaking the truth when he said that his day had turned for the better.
Sheepishly nodding at Rutu, he yelled a goodbye at Nimay and walked over to the floor where his patients were, bringing Rutu along. He wanted to try and apologize to Rutu for being unprofessional in front of her and unpacking family/friends drama but then he remembered how she had called him Abhi and he shrugged the doubts off. Working with his friends had been great and now maybe he'll have another friend and if he was being completely honest, he was selfish in this friendship with Rutu because her help in surgeries would mean that he could offload a lot of his work and potentially leave early and spend time with Akshara and his babies.
By the time night fell, Abhimanyu was exhausted because he had only meant to stay back until evening and go home to hangout with Akshara and potentially kiss her and hold her but also ask her about the whole Diksha drama but he was crestfallen as he drove back home knowing that Akshara would probably be asleep. The last text he had gotten from her was a few hours back asking him when he would be back home and while at that time he had thought he would be home sooner than later, Rutu had needed more help than he had anticipated and he had to stay back and when he relayed this information to Akshara she had stopped responding, instead choosing to react to his text with a thumbs up. Even from across the city, he could feel the annoyance coming from her in waves.
