Akshara was still upset with him the morning after and while he did not want her to be mad at him it was also extremely funny to watch his little monkey glare at him so cutely and grumble under her breath making passive aggressive comments very now and then which were extremely out of character for her. He was almost sure it was because she was jealous of Shanaya but he couldn't afford to broach that subject this close to the surprise.
He had wanted to give her a big fat wedding again but knowing what he knew about his wife she would have definitely hated every second of it, especially being under the scrutiny of all the people she didn't know so with the help of a few trusted individuals and the event planner Shanaya, he had come up with the perfect solution, however it had been extremely hard to keep things under the wraps from his inquisitive monkey.
"c'mon monkey you cannot still be upset with me" he coaxed gently hoping to get a response the next day but Akshara refused to talk to him, turning her back to him every time he got closer to her or throwing barbs at him along the lines of "I'm not mad" or worse, "You think you've done nothing for me to be mad at you so oh great Dr. Birla what do i know? why would i be mad?"
Luckily for him, Anisha's first wedding function was supposed to commence the day after and guests were already filtering in and Akshara had been rightfully busy running around to think of their tussle. He was slightly worried about her meals, but his mother seemed to have taken on the responsibility and was feeding her every chance she got. When Abhimanyu came home that day after his morning clinics, all the women of the family were sitting in a circle picking out sarees for the next day as shagun for guests and the family members while the men milled about.
Spying Parth bhai sitting next to Shefali Bhabhi, Abhimanyu slyly sat next to a startled Akshara who out of habit smiled at him before realizing that she was mad at him and huffed before turning around, ignoring him and talking to Nishtha. As much as he hated not having her attention, he loved her being possessive about him just a tad more.
"Did you pick a saree for yourself?" he whispered from next to her, disappointed when she glanced around and shook her head in embarrassment.
"Bhaiya, can you show some sarees for my wife?" he asked boldly, refusing to let everyone's ribbing get to him. He didn't care if other men did not do it for their wives, he wanted to do it for his wife and that's all that mattered to him. "Why are you doing this? Everyone's looking..." Akshara hurried whispered reached his ears and he smirked down at her blushing face.
"Since when is gifting my wife a nice saree embarrassing?" he asked bumping her shoulder lightly.
"Please" she pleaded but right then the salesman dropped a bunch of sarees in front of Abhimanyu and not giving her any time to argue, Abhimanyu began to pilfer through the pile trying to find the exact one he wanted for his wife."Think of this as me begging for forgiveness for making my little monkey upset" he whispered back at her grinning widely when she blushed deeply. "c'mon help me choose a nice one for you, did you like anything?" he asked waiting for her to grab some through the pile and pick one out but her arms refused to move.
"What is it monkey?" he asked.
"I've never had a choice before." Shit. He hated when she said stuff like this because it meant that her suffering ran that deep and no matter how hard he tried the chasm was too wide and deep for him to fill. "You'll always have a choice with me baby." He whispered, his lips inching closer to her cheek, only jumping away when his mother coughed loudly looking at him pointedly.
He gave her time to look at the pile making note of every color she picked and inspected before dropping them back into the pile. "I like this" her small voice came from next to him and he smiled down at the pink saree she had picked, forever predictable, his monkey.
