Ever Changing

Your POV

It had been a few days since the meeting, and Midoriya, Uraraka, Tsu, Kirishima, and I were all kicking it into high gear. Out of all of our classmates, we were pushing ourselves the most. Everyone had noticed just how hard we were working.

I was back to focusing on my classes and hero training, but I still wasn't sleeping well. Everything about the case was bothering me. I tried my best to think about school, but it was always lingering in the back of my mind.

We had been sworn to secrecy, so whenever someone asked about our work studies, we'd have to change the subject, or flat out tell them we couldn't talk about it. It was driving me, as well as Katsuki, insane. I hated keeping secrets from him. He was obviously frustrated about the whole thing, and so was I.

So, one day I decided that enough was enough. I couldn't take sitting in a classroom any longer. I did the only thing I could think of.

I paced nervously as the phone rang, debating on whether or not I should just hang up and pretend it never happened. But before I could back out, the other line picked up.

"Nighteye Agency, how can I help you?"

"Hey, Bubble Girl."

"Oh, Y/N! I'm surprised to be hearing from you so soon. What's up?"

I let out a sigh as I nervously fidgeted with my fingers. "Listen, I know this is a lot to ask... But I want to continue my work study with Sir Nighteye while they look for Eri."

There was a deafening silence over the phone. It lasted for maybe 10 seconds, but it felt like forever. "Hold on, let me go get Nighteye," she finally said.

The phone was put on hold as I nervously chewed my nail. I had no idea what he was going to say, and I was worried that I would screw everything up by asking. But I couldn't take another day sitting in that classroom.

Suddenly, the other line came back on, making me subconsciously hold my breath in anticipation.

"Absolutely not."

"But, Sir-"

"No! You are a first-year student who's already been through too much for a sixteen-year-old. I won't be the one to subject you to more cruelty. You and your classmates are to be minimally involved in this operation."

I squeezed my eyes shut in frustration as I huffed out a sigh. But I wasn't giving up yet. "Okay. I hear you. But I can't take this waiting. I sit in a classroom all day, and then I sit in my dorm room all night. I can't sleep and I can't think about anything other than how badly I failed to protect that little girl! Please, Sir... I can't just sit here and do nothing."

Once again, there was a pause on both ends. I was starting to give up. I knew I shouldn't have said anything.

"Fine."

"...What?" My eyes widened as I nearly dropped my phone. He said yes?!

"You can come do your work study, but you will not be going out looking for the Hassaikai. You will be in the office, or with me training at all times. No patrols, no surveillance, no scouting. Only paperwork and training."

I smiled, relieved and happy that he agreed. I was going to go nuts if I spent another day here. "Thank you, Sir! You don't know how much this means to me..."

His tone softened significantly as he spoke, "You're welcome. You can come in tomorrow, and we'll go from there."

"Yeah, okay. Thank you. Goodbye, Sir," I replied once again. I truly was grateful he allowed me to come back.
