Exams are in 10 months. That means 10 months of training with my dad. I don't know what I'm training for exactly because the exams change every year. I'm taking the recommendations exam since my dad, Hizashi, Midnight, and All Might all put in recommendations. Looking over my academic achievements was enough for the school to consider me as a candidate for recommendations, but having pros put in a good word helps even more.
Anyway, all I knew was that there would be a written exam, a practical exam, and an interview. I had to admit, training with my dad was slightly nerve wracking considering he could take away my quirk. But, taking away my quirk would definitely help me better my hand-to-hand combat skills.
10 Months Later...
After 10 months, it was finally the morning of the exam. I wore my most professional looking clothes that Midnight had helped me choose, which were surprisingly appropriate. I walked into the auditorium and took a seat in the middle. It was almost 9:00 already so I assumed that the people in the room were the only ones here on recommendation. There was a total of about 50 of us, definitely more boys than girls. As soon as the clock hit 9, Present Mic burst through the door and onto the stage. "Hey, hey, hey, all you academic superstars! Welcome to the UA recommendations entrance exam! If you look under your seats, there should be a handout that outlines the practical exam rules. Since all of you are here on recommendation, we need to determine which of you are the best. That being said, all of you are going to be racing against each other in a 3-kilometer-long obstacle course. Anything goes, short of injuring your fellow nominees. You'll be racing six at a time and I'll be recording your times while the rest of the staff observe your quirks. Any questions?" I skimmed over the handout as Hizashi explained it. It seemed pretty straight forward, an obstacle course where we had to race each other was simple enough. "Alright, now that you all know the rules, go on and put your gym clothes on, and then head to the busses waiting out front," he finished.
I stood up and grabbed my bag, walking into the locker room. I pulled my gym clothes from my bag and slipped them on, they were designed for mobility and comfort to help me be at my best. I put my other clothes into the bag and hung them in a random locker, making a mental note of which one it was. I headed out to the busses and got on one of the first ones and waited for the rest of the people to get on. I felt the seat next to me dip and turned my head to see who sat next to me. It was a boy with half white, half red hair and monochromic eyes. He seemed like the antisocial type, and I didn't want to make him uncomfortable, so I stared out the window as the busses began to head toward what I assumed was the obstacle course.
When we got there, Present Mic handed me a sticky tag with a large number 12 on it and told me to put it on my upper abdomen like the rest of the teens. I did as told and walked over to the large gate. "All right! You'll be racing in sets of six, so can numbers 3, 27, 32, 12, 52, and 9 line up at the line just before the gate. The rest of you can wait for your turns in the waiting area over there," Hizashi pointed at the building a little way away from the gate.
I stepped up to the line and looked to see that I would be racing against all boys. While I was feeling confident in my abilities, I had to keep in mind that I didn't know what their quirks were. Once all the other kids were in the building, Present Mic started the count down. "Ready! Three, two, one... Go!" The gates opened and we raced into the course. I didn't use my quirk immediately, knowing how bad the drawbacks could be, I wanted to save it for a more appropriate time. The boys were pulling ahead, but that was my plan from the start. We were allowed to use our quirks on the others, as long as we didn't intentionally injure them. Of course, that meant that the people in the front would be using their quirks relentlessly on each other. It also meant that if there were any traps, I would be safely behind and prepared for them.
