Guo the Pariah stared intently out of the back of the wagon that Maurice had commandeered. The swarm of angry shapes appeared to be gaining ground on them by the minute. He could barely make out the number of assailants, approximately 10 to 15 waasperns were planning bloody vengeance for his act of regicide.

"Maurice! can this fucking thing move any faster?!!! I only have eight bullets left!"

"Ooh ooh ooh maybe you should have thought of that BEFORE you killed Beth! I'm doing the best I can, these animals were suitable for durability, not speed"

Just then, the wagon hit a bump in the road, it jolted Guo and he almost tumbled out of the back of the wagon. He was able to grab hold of the canvas at the last second. The buzzing of the pursuer's wings could be heard on the wind now. Guo frantically searched the wagon for something that could be of use to them.

The wagon must have been property of a construction company. There was a collection of cutting tools, wooden beams, gravel, and larger stones. One positive was in their rage the waasperns were not making a coordinated attack. A vanguard of three were almost upon them.

"Maurice! Don't make it easy for these fuckers to land!"

"Gotch ya!" The wagon veered to one side tossing Guo on his ass, then it swerved in the opposite direction. Guo was able to stabilize himself between two beams. The muscles in his legs were in agony.

He grabbed a large sized rock and hurled at the first approaching insect. He missed the target, but in its attempt to avoid the projectile the waaspern crashed into the boughs of a tree by the side of the road. Guo took out his pistol and steadied his aim and fired. Half of the insect's head was destroyed and the suddenly lifeless body slammed into the one directly behind it.

Two more succumbed to gunfire in the next group of four. One attempted to skewer Guo with a spear, but he dodged out of the way, grabbed hold of the spear then used the attacker's own momentum against them, tossing them to the ground. He then threw the spear at the abdomen of the other one. It screeched as the projectile dug into its flesh.

Only five remained now, after witnessing what befell their compatriots they decided to make a more cautious approach. One attempted to fly in front of the wagon to halt its progress but Guo shot it before it could reach its objective.

Two more fell to his bullets, the wagon jostled unexpectedly and Guo lost his grip on his gun. Allowing the remaining two waaspern to land. Guo reflected back on his martial arts training. Sometimes it is easier to immobilize your opponent. As the insect lunged at him he pivoted to the side and using a rusty axe carved off one of the wings. He then used all of his remaining strength to push it over the side.

A stinger dug painfully into Guo's thigh. Guo reached down and grabbed a handful of gravel and threw it in the remaining wasp's face. Temporarily disoriented, the last wasp's head was bashed in by a large rock before it could recover. Guo collapsed shortly afterward too exhausted to stand. Before he lost consciousness all could hear was a monkey's ooh ooh ooh and laughing
