When Guo turned to acknowledge what Maurice said, he already vanished. Guo instinctively looked skyward for the bird but there was nothing but endless grey. Well no point in wasting time he said to himself as he began the crossing.
His mind began to wander, a sister! What a revelation, he didn't understand all of this Fah'Rey bullshit. Apparently his sister was making the same journey, maybe he will meet up with her. I wonder what she is like? He mused to himself, before he even realized it he was halfway across the murky plain. A layer of mist hung over the cold earth like a shroud. He thought he heard the sound of a laughing child, followed by a mother's halfhearted reproach.
It all seemed distant and ghostly, in his peripheral he saw a small shape running past him. The heard the thunder of a loud cracking and a scream of surprise. He walked towards the direction the sound was emanating from. He saw an arm reaching out of the frost, he ran towards it.
"Hheeelllpppp mmeee" the ghostly plea gave him an uneasiness in his bones. Hands reached out to grab him as he made his way to the voice. He was determined not to let anything stop him, finally he reached the opening in the ice. Looking down a ghostly form was struggling to stay afloat, thrashing in the black void.
"Sssoooonnn hhheeelllppp mmeee!"
Without a second thought Guo reached down to the spectre, "mama! Grab my hand!!!" The grip was icy cold, Guo felt as if his life force was being drained from him. He felt a wave of dizziness, but he did not let go of the apparition.Then with surprising strength, he was yanked downward. Into cold, lonely, black abyss...
