As they stepped through the portal the first thing Yuan noticed was the change in the air. After breathing the stale, mineralized, subterranean air for the last few days. The sudden influx of freshness was like an explosion to her remaining senses.

 She inhaled deeply, savouring in the sweetness of it. The warm sunshine invigorated her skin, making it feel tingly. She remembered she read somewhere that when a person loses one of their senses the others become more heightened. Now that she was acclimated to the new environment, small details were beginning to form in her mind's eye.

The acrid smell of something burning reached her nose. The sound of chaos was carried to her ears on the wind. She could feel Ani's muscles tense under the grip of her hand.

"What's wrong", she asked

"Something is not right, let me ask someone. " She could hear the sound of a group of people shuffling hurriedly in their direction. Ani addressed one of the evacuees, "hi friend, what is going on here?"

A gruff urgent voice responded, "Someone murdered the queen in her own hive! The wasps have gone mad, killing anybody they can catch!! You better take your girl and run, there is nothing left for you here!"

"Yuan, we need to find my brother, maybe he can help us"

It was very disconcerting to not knowing where you are going, or being able to find your way back. Yuan was terrified of losing contact with Ani. She heard many people talking as they passed by, {they say it was her human lover, who became jealous}, {this will lead to all out war}, {good riddance! It is time for the common people to rule Kaasaam}

After winding through the city streets, often staying out of sight to avoid confrontation. The exotic smells of spices and tobacco assaulted her senses. She suddenly felt hungry, Ani led her into a building. She smelt curry, pepper, seafood, and succulent meats seasoned with rosemary.

A voice raucously greeted them, "brother! Yuan my love! I thought you would never make it!!"

It was quickly followed by the sound of a punch, a grunt, and someone falling on the floor.
