first book of the year!! although it's not the strongest start to the year, i still thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. i think the main reason why i didn't finish this sooner was simply because i wasn't in the reading mood. when i started it, i knew it's going to be a very enjoyable read, but i don't even know why but i just wasn't feeling like reading, and instead, i spent the majority of my time watching youtube videos lol.

anyway, if i were to read this book a year ago, i know for sure that i'll eat it up. the amount of smut in this book however, at least for my reading taste now feels kind of overdone. we would get them every other chapter and in between such intense chapters as well.

although the smut was very spicy, and just a bit of a heads up, the use of the word sluts and whores in this book were just, it was a lot. but since that's one of my biggest turn ons in books, i don't mind it at all. actually, that really was what kept me going with the smuts.

this book isn't a long book by any means, but i genuinely think that it could have been 5-10 chapters shorter if we could erase some of the unnecessary smuts and i would have enjoyed it a lot more.

i think this book is just not what i expected coming into it which is always a bad thing. because reading the blurb of it, i was expecting the majority of the book takes place in the club. but turns out we only spent 1-2 chapters, and the rest of it were in clay's house.

i did actually knew that there will be some mafia plot into it, but i wasn't expecting it to be this dominant in a sense? but if i can say so myself, the mafia was done very nicely, because we really got to see the tortuting, we had a real mafia plot on who are we up to and those stuffs.

and when i was starting to be able to vibe with that plot in specific, the random and out of no where smut would pops up and take me completely out of it. so i guess that is also another reason why it took me so long (considering the length of the book) to finish.

oh also, this book started with valentina killing someone, which is a slay, but i felt like everyone in the book knows what happens and we are just being thrown in the middle of the book without any explanation which got me kind of confused.

but as we progress into the book, we do find out why she's doing this, what he is up to and all that background information. i can definitely see people being obsessed with this book with the beautiful writing, hot smuts, mafia plots, strong female main character, but it's just not me. sure, i enjoyed this book, but i can't see myself thinking about it in the future.

one thing i really like is how brave and strong valentina really is, and i can definitely sense the chemistry and tension between the two main characters, but then again, you won't be able to relate to that if you were to skip the smut, so you do really need to read all of those.
