you lean against a metal banister as you smoke a cigarette. the night sky almost greets you, but the day still lingers behind. music blares from inside the bar, but you still can hear your phone start to ring.

you take your phone out of your pocket and answer the call, "what's up, dino?" you immediately speak.

"you interested in racing tonight?" he asks, "just need a fourth. cash prize if you win," he adds.

"where at?"

"the usual. you in?"

you drop the cigarette onto the ground and smother it with your foot. "cash prize better be good," you say before ending the call.

you put your phone away and go back into the bar. you head to the counter, where you see your friend working.

"hey, seungkwan, i gotta go," you say to your friend as he pours drinks.

"did you drink?" he asks, unsure of what he gave you earlier when you had first arrived at the bar. you shake your head. "soda?"

"yea, wasn't feeling it tonight," you say.

"i'll pay for it. you just go," he says to you.

"you're too nice," you say with a smile.

seungkwan smiles, "just win, alright?" he replies, knowing where your next destination is.

you leave the bar, passing by people walking up as you walk downstairs. you leave the building and head straight for your car, which you had parked on the street earlier. as you approach your car, you notice a group of people looking at it. one guy leans on your car, but you ignore him as you unlock the car and open the driver's side door. the guy, however, freaks out as you approach the car and stands of straight, mumbling an apology.

"this yours or your boyfriends?" another guy asks you.

"don't have a boyfriend," you reply.

"you race?" he asks.

"come find out," you say with a smirk and take your jacket off, throwing it in the passenger's seat. "have a good one," you add and get into your car. you start it up and put your seatbelt on.

it doesn't take long for you to drive to the boardwalk that is in your town. as you arrive, people move out of the way so you can get through. you can hear people start to cheer as they realize it's you who is racing tonight, but there are plenty of others don't seem too happy to see you either.

you reach the start and roll down your window. when he notices you, dino jumps up from a crate and jogs over to you.

"you ready to go?" he asks.

"would i be here if i wasn't?" you ask him.

dino grins before walking away. "alright! let's get this show on the road!" he announces, causing the crowd to cheer in excitement.

people start moving about, getting ready for the race to start. you look at the other racers, but you're quick to realize that you have never raced with them before.

new people? i guess fresh faces will make it more fun tonight.

once people are out of the way and the drivers are ready, you notice a girl standing in the middle of the cars. this isn't the first time you're seeing her; she races for fun once in awhile.

the girl raises her hands in the air, and you hear people start doing a countdown from ten. once the girl throws her hands down, you drive off.

most of the route is a straight path with a few turns mixed in. however, the roads start getting narrow as you leave the boardwalk area. you let the other drivers stay in front of you for the beginning, overtaking them when you finally can. you pass by people who cheer and make the first turn, heading into the industrial district of your town.

the other drivers attempt to take over again, but they aren't able to. as the road starts to widen, one driver tries to overtake you, but you don't let them. another car tries to take over during this, but they fail as well.

after a few minutes, you're on a road that leads to an empty lot just on the outside of your town. you make a second turn onto a dirt road, dust and dirt particles flying as all of you drive.

one of the drivers attempts to overtake you again, but it still doesn't work because you cross the makeshift finish line first. people cheer as the race concludes.

you grin as you park your car by some other cars and take a second before getting out. the other drivers park near you and all of you greet each other for a bit. once you step away, someone gives you the cash prize. you count it before pocketing it.

the party continues with more people joining the lot. you decide to get away from the party people and walk past your parked car, heading into a dirt field. you take a cigarette out of the box and bring it to your mouth. you light the cigarette up with a lighter.

"you're pretty good."

you turn around and see a guy walking up to you. it's one of the guys from outside of the bar from earlier.

"you got a good one too," he says, looking over his shoulder to look at your car for a second.

you blow smoke out. "been with me thick and thin," you mention before bringing the cigarette back to your lips.

"if you wanna run with new faces, i could hook you up with my friends. they'd love a challenge," he suddenly offers to you.

you take the cigarette away, holding it in between your fingers. "and what's the catch?" you ask him.

"nothing," he answers. "just want to make a new friend," he says and takes the cigarette from your fingers into his own. he brings it to his mouth and takes a puff.

"hey, wonwoo! let's go!"

the guy looks over his shoulder again before turning to look at you, "see ya around," he says to you before turning and walking away from you.

"see you soon, wonwoo," you reply after a few seconds, making him look back at you with a smirk. you scoff and shake your head as you take another cigarette out of the box, "this'll be fun."
