We walked on set for the first time of many. "The Color Purple" this is a very different movie but not anything I'm not used to, I've been in large productions almost half my life the only differences were the time period and this time I was working with Oprah and I'm not naive to how she handles business. I plan to mind most of my business and just get this money this movie is a classic and the cast we have is everything I don't think Oprah and Blitz could've done a better job handpicking us for this fresh new vision for The Color Purple. I was very excited to work with Ms. Danielle Brooks if only she knew how much I actually adored the person she is. An amazing actress, wife and mother. I wanted to definitely keep my eye on her during our extended time together because this is her first big production and with me doing this for over 20 years I want her to have the best possible experience. I felt the same way with the beautiful Phylicia Mpasi, Gabrielle and my love the incomparable Fantasia Barrino. I know Fantasia played Celie before but she said she got so lost in her character before that she wasn't sure she wanted to go there again, but same as me the new vision is what drew all of us in I was very excited to get started.
"Oh my god girl I can't believe we're really doing this" Danielle was in awe as she should be.
"Oh yes, this is going to be an amazing experience" Phylicia said.
"My first big movie this is insane and T I'm so excited to be working with you, you have to help me I'm definitely going to need it" that girl was great in Orange is the New Black I don't know why she was doubting her craft now, she was bound to pull a movie one day.
"You don't need my help love you already got it"
"Says thee Taraji P Henson. I'm literally among greatness, you, Colman, Whoopi, Oprah!"
"Thank you but little do you know I'm a huge fan of you myself"
"Auntie! Dani!" Halle said running up to us, she went in for a hug that I happily granted and then did the same with Danielle.
"Where is Fantasia?" Danielle asked.
"I just got off the phone with her actually she should be here soon she said she woke up a little later than usual"
"It's crazy they don't provide transportation but I don't have time to correct people's mistakes today"
"Yeah I had transportation when I was Ariel but Nettie can't get a ride to the set after all she been through. This is ATL I can't believe I have to drive." We laughed as Oprah's voice cut through all of the separate conversations.
"Everyone welcome, welcome we are so excited to have you all here today, I know for most of you this will be your first experience in a big movie like the color purple but we are here to help you and guide you so we can make history for the second time" I really don't know what made them think to remake this movie because it definitely could've been left alone. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Fantasia enter, she looked around probably for someone she knew. She looked beautiful dressed in a black sweater dress and cream colored heels.
