F.M. Barrino-Henson
It's been almost a week since Taraji's surgery and she had gotten off of the tube the day after surgery. We were still in the hospital and Taraji was currently in the bathroom, I had just returned from going to get her some real food because she hated the hospital food. I heard the toilet flush and the sink started running, I waited for her to come out of the bathroom. When she did I smiled. She made her way back to the bed and I helped her get in by holding her hand.
"Hey!"
"Hey baby, I missed you, it almost seems like you've been gone forever."
"Not forever just a few hours." It was Saturday so I had to check on the kids and make sure they were fed and dressed. Dallas and Keziah stayed home today so I took the twins to the center, opening the doors in the process. I went to get something to eat for me and Taraji because she hadn't eaten the breakfast they served her. I leaned down to kiss her and handed her the Togo box in my hand and she squealed when she saw the logo.
"Chipotle! You do love me."
"Duh. I know what my baby likes." I sat in my seat next to her bed pulled out my own food and we both dug in.
"Thank you."
"Don't." I almost forgot the chips that I got, I grabbed the bag of spicy Doritos out of my tote bag and handed it to her. She squealed again and opened them. I was just so happy that she was eating like regular again. "So did your doctor say anything about a kidney since I'd been gone?"
"No, I haven't seen him since you left but a nurse did come check on me a couple of times."
"That's good."
"Has the boy's father turned up yet?"
"No, and his mother said this is the longest he's ever been gone before."
"He just falls off the face of the earth like this?"
"I guess so."
"I feel bad for the boys."
"Me too, they don't deserve to be raised like this."
"So their grandmother is raising them on her own?"
"Well, when I take them home you know I stay with them until they go to sleep. I try to help her as much as I can as well."
"That's great baby, I'm glad you're there for them. I love how big your heart is."
"My heart? Mama, you're the huge reason we have the Barrino-Henson Center in the first place them kids love you so much and they miss the hell out of you."
"I miss them too. You know the center wouldn't be anything without you. Mmm, baby did you get something to drink?" I stood from my seat and handed her my food.
