I heard (Y/n) jump from the shrine's other side.

She was up on her feet instantly, and I assumed she had brought out her frost sword because the fire suddenly fizzled out, leaving her in the dark.

"Leo!" She yelled, her heavy breath echoing off the walls. I had flung myself away from the head and managed to get on my feet.

"Valdez! Where are you?"

I waved my flaming hand but realized she couldn't see me due to the fountain between us.

Her side must be pitch black.

"I'm between the statue pieces!"

I heard her slow shuffle as she carefully stepped across the floor. There was a scuffling sound and then a splash, then everything went quiet.

"(Y/n)?"

"L-Leo. I-I'm in the fountain," she mumbled, and I could hear the embarrassment in her voice.

I made my way to the fountain, glad to put distance between me and the head.

I rounded my side and found her sitting in the tiled pool.

The pool was dry and covered in what looked to be thousands of years of dust, but (Y/n)'s clothes were sopping wet.

"What happened?" That was the first thing that came out of my mouth.

I was about to lend her a hand when I remembered and recoiled.

She managed to crawl out of the fountain pool and lay starfished on the ground, her chest heaving. I could see her cheeks were tomato red.

"One minute I'm sleeping, the next you're screaming as blood is running down your hand. And you're asking me what happened?"

I sighed as she took out the roll of tape and wrapped it around the cut. It wasn't very effective, but it stopped any further blood. She tucked the roll back into the hoodie pocket, and I looked down at her again, her clothes sopping.

"Where'd the liquid come from?"

She nodded to the pool.

"I was coming over when I tripped over this stupid brace and fell into the pool. It was full of water. I think I inhaled some."

She coughed, and I rolled my eyes.

"But there's nothing here." I swung my hand towards the fountain to show how dry and old it was.

"Or is there?"

I whipped around, and (Y/n) jumped in place.

I nodded for her to follow my lead, and we made our way to the statue, (Y/n)'s shoes squeaking with every step. Both of us stood in front of it. Its changing reflection had vanished, leaving only the dark-haired woman.

"Over here."

We spun around and stared into the darkness, where the golden head stared back.

"Hello. I'm Liam."
