That's when the legend hit me.
Lamia, queen of Libya.
My father used to be a history teacher, so I read all of his mythology books after his passing, and I remember how this one ended.
'Ms. Lam' stepped out from behind her desk, her scaly body spilling out. A long red snake tail merged from her torso where her legs should have been.
Her manicured nails grew pointed and long.
"Be still dear, it won't take long."
She shot across the desk at me, slamming me into one of the office walls.
Yep, trap.
Her claws dug into my shoulders,"You were cursed by Hera," I mumbled through the pain, and she smiled.
"You're a smart one."
Her tail rattled, honestly after the big white blind one from the labyrinth I was done with snakes.
"She stole your children, killed them, turned you into a snake, ripped out your eyes, and you opened a bed and breakfast?!?" I wheezed, trying to get my arm high enough to unleash my sword.
"All complaints are to be taken by the front desk," she hissed, gently dragging the back of a claw down my cheek.
I swung my hand, feeling the cool metal of my sword against my palm. I sliced her side, and she dropped me, backing me up.
"Oh, I'm not complaining. It was all lovely till you tried to eat me!"
I spit, wiping the blood off my cheek.
She shrugged, "All part of the job, dearie."
"But why a hotel? I know now that your own children are gone, so you eat others, but why the Lily Hotel?"
I panted, trying to catch my breath.
"I inherited it from the previous owner. You know it's much easier this day in age to open an attraction then go out and actually hunt children. This way my dinner comes to me."
She slammed her fist on a nearby table. I readied myself, crouching down as she began to slowly advance.
And when I saw my opportunity, I......ran.
I ran to the door, double-checking that Elias had indeed locked me in here.
Lamia raised herself up off the ground, golden eyes staring me down.
"It'll be such a shame to eat you. You'd make a great usher for my hotel."
Then she launched herself at me, and I side-stepped, letting her run into the door. She smacked her face hard off the door, blood spraying from her nose.
I winced, feeling her pain.
The hinges on the wood began to crack, but I couldn't see a key anywhere, I'd have to use force.
"Aughhh!" She yelled, holding her face, "my nose!"
"Careful not to get blood on the carpet; it's a nightmare to get out," I commented.
She spun around, glaring at me.
Lamia had that 'I'm gonna murder you' look in her eyes.
I jumped on top of her desk, and she turned, striking at me. I threw myself at the chandelier, my hand barely grasping the edge. T
he little pieces of glass sent cuts up my arms and face as I swung back and forth in a pendulum motion.
"Get down here, you rat!" She shrieked, not able to reach me.
