I stood next to Piper and Jason as we watched a couple of young campers run around.

It was nice to know that because of us, they didn't have to worry about a nonstop war suddenly coming down upon them.

It was only one tick-off thousands of boxes, but it still felt nice. I looked at my two best friends, their hands entwined as we walked.

A smile slipped onto my face until my head was turned out of view, and I sighed.

There were only three more weeks.

There were three more weeks until summer officially started. I could slip unnoticed into the sea of campers and leave for good.

A pang of guilt washed over me as I heard Piper laugh.

Nobody knew yet.

They'd all try to stop me if I told them, but they didn't get it.

Which is an overused statement, I know. But they didn't. Everyone was happy with each other, trying to forget what happened.

Don't get me wrong; I have had good days since Calypso left, and things have gone downhill.

Calypso.

Her face popped into my mind, and I silently cursed.

"Leo?" I jumped, "You've been quiet. Are you okay?" Piper asked. Both of them were staring at me now.

"I-"

Suddenly, the air went cold around me, and I shivered, something that had never happened. Piper and Jason felt it, too, their skin growing paler and their breath coming out in a misty plume.

Then we heard the scream.

I watched as groups of campers stepped over the frosted strawberry fields and ran towards the barrier. Something pulled me, and I couldn't help but join them.

"Leo!"

A sudden cold hand yanked me back, and Piper stood before me, looking unimpressed.

She raised her eyebrows.

"Let's stay back, we've had enough problems."

I shook my head. Something was pulling me to go see. It was like every part of my body buzzed.

"N-no, no I need to go. I-i feel something." Jason and Piper exchanged a look before she met my gaze, when a demigod felt something, it was usually important.

"Okay, let's go."

We followed the groups carefully over the icy hills, and that's when I saw the scene.

I heard the whispers, but I didn't know the name.

A Chimera?

All I knew was a lion, goat, snake creature outside the barrier. A girl stood not too far away.

She was tall with white hair and golden eyes. In her hand was a sword.

The ground outside the barrier had been frosted over, but the girl seemed accustomed to it. She was covered in blood, burns, and dirt. She was lean, but something told me she hadn't eaten in a few days.

A couple of campers stepped forward to help, but suddenly, a woman appeared in front of them all.

A collective gasp ran through the camp, and Annabeth went to the front, seething with rage. I clenched my fists, resisting the urge to walk over and sock the goddess in the eye.

"Hera."

The woman smiled, but it was cold and dull.

"Ah, hello there, Annabeth."

Annabeth growled and pulled out her dagger.

"Excuse me, I have a newbie to rescue."

As the blonde girl took off towards the barrier, Hera held out her hand.

"I'm afraid that won't be necessary."

The goddess waved her hand, and the protective barrier around the camp glowed red, and then she disappeared.

Annabeth sighed and walked up to the barrier only to find it had become solid, almost as if made of red glass.

Chiron stepped forward with a frightened look on his face.

"What is happening?" He looked between Annabeth and the girl just outside.

"It was Hera, I-i can't get through!"

Chiron reached the force field and ran his hand against the now solid walls.

Suddenly, the girl's body hit the glass. She slid down the side in front of the whole crowd and spat out a wad of blood. It glistened on the white snow.

The Chimera charged, and I was sure we were about to be cleaning demigod off the glass. Several turned away, including Piper and Jason, but I couldn't seem to pry my eyes off her. I saw the fear in her eyes, but she held her ground.

Just as the Chimera bowed its head to bite her, she swung around its neck, cutting off its head. The animal's body toppled and slid across the ground. With a quick swipe of her sword, the goat was no more.

After dodging its head once, she turned to the viper and separated it from the animal's body.

The head lay squirming on the ground, but she paid no mind.

That was a mistake.

The viper raised its head, and I watched its fangs sink into her ankle.

She let out a scream that pierced the frigid air, strung along with a couple of curses.

And then brought her sword down on the animal's head again, stopping twitching. She looked around for a second before staring back towards the barrier, and I was sure our eyes had met. That's when a roar behind her cut through the air, shaking the ground.

Her eyes widened, and she grabbed her bag and ran towards the red glass. A few campers stepped back, and there were shouts of warning.

"Stop! You can't-" Annabeth was interrupted as the girl faded through the wall and landed on the frozen ground.

Gasps went up.

The girl stood up, her body shaking. She limped forward, blood pooling from her ankle. She pushed through groups of campers.

"I need to find Chiron." She mumbled.

She went to where we were standing, and I could see the shivers convulsing up her body. I stepped out before her path, my hand bursting into flame. The frost around my feet began to melt.

"Hey there, you look cold. Can I warm you up?" She elbowed her way past me and took a few steps before stumbling.

"Out of my way, Flame boy."

That was the last thing she said before she collapsed into my arms.
