We arrived at the station by shortcut behind the deli right on time.
Everyone had been quiet the whole way here.
Talk about daddy issues.
Though I could understand why, these gods had left them with their mothers and abandoned them for so many years, only coming crashing back in when they needed something, like a large magical parasite.
I stepped up to the ticket booth, handing a couple of bills from the baggy titled "transportation" to the ticket saleswoman. A girl was standing behind the counter, her face guarded by the glass. She wore a little red cap and uniform.
"Hello. Where are you headed?" the woman asked, her gilded eyes scanning the seven of us.
"Seven tickets to Ontario, Please."
Her nails tapped against the keyboard as the tickets printed themselves out behind her.
"Sure thing, sweets. The train can get you as far as the border. Just cross right through, and you'll be in Canada."
She smiled, but then I saw a split tongue flick out from between her lips. Her eyes dilated for a second, but then she blinked, and they went back to normal.
"Thank you." I grabbed the tickets and shoved my friends towards the opening train doors.
"Was that what I think-" Melog whispered.
"Yup, let's keep going before something goes wrong," I mumbled, pushing her in the direction of the stop.
The inside of the train was completely empty, so it was easy to find our seats since it didn't matter where we sat.
Leo sat with his head resting against the window and Harley begrudgingly beside him.
Will and Nico sat across the aisle together. Nico's arm was still hanging from its sling, and he was obviouslyn't pleased about it. He kept pulling on a loose string until Will smacked his hand away and took it captive.
Liam and Melog sat together, and I found a seat behind them all. I sank into the soft wine-coloured seat, slipping my bag over my head and placing it beside me.
This would be a long ride, with only 1436 kilometres to go.
The car was quiet; most of us were napping or at least trying to. I had my knees propped up on the seat before me, the little red-bound book in my lap.
For the first hour, it just sat there, too afraid to open it.
The second I opened the cover, I was just staring at the cover page.
'Antigrafo'
I turned the page-flipping through the table of contents.
