Chapter 19 (Y/n)

I woke up to the sound of pounding fists on the door to the bunker.

Festus had slunk off my neck and was tangled in the sheets beside me. I had drifted off the bed, my right side hanging over the edge.

Across from me at his desk, Leo was fast asleep. His face rested on his hand, and his goggles sat wonky in his messy hair. Another pound at the door made my heart jump, and Festus stood up and hissed at the door like a cat.

This dragon seemed to be any animal but a dragon.

Leo's head jerked as he jumped up. His cheek was smeared with oil. Leo stood up and walked towards the door. The door opened before he got to the button, revealing a dark, curly-haired kid.

"Hi, Leo!"

"Harley? What are you doing here? And How'd you guess my password?"

Harley laughed, his bandaid scattered cheeks swelling.

"It was pretty easy." He tucked his hands into his green coveralls and smiled. I stretched and saw his eyes dart past Leo's oil-splattered frame.

His brown irises grew wide when he saw me.

"Mr.D needs your lady friend."

With that, he took off down the hill faster than I thought was possible for his little legs.

I blew a strand of hair out of my face. Its dark colour caught me off guard; I had hoped that part had been a dream.

"What was that all about?" I mumbled, walking up beside him with Festus on my shoulder.

"I'm not sure; everybody's been talking about you, so maybe he's a little freaked out."

"Great." I rubbed the dark circles under my eyes.

My own quest member was terrified of me.

"But if the god himself wants to see you, it can't be good." I sighed, and Leo and I walked down from the bunker to camp together.

Many people were out and about; many sat in the pavilion eating breakfast. Clarrise waved to me from her table, and I gave a shy wave. We made our way into the pavilion, and Leo took Festus and sat down at his table, giving me that quirky smirk. I approached the head table and met Chiron and Mr. D's eyes.

"Have a seat. You need some food in you before your quest begins. We will talk afterward." I swallowed hard; that didn't sound good.

I took a seat next to Liam at the head table.

"How'd you sleep?" Chiron asked, cutting into a piece of whole wheat toast.

"Not with that grime ball, I hope," Liam added.

The piece of waffle I had been working on caught in my throat, and I practically died coughing at his remark.

Luckily, the dining pavilion was loud today, and none of the campers seemed to notice. After breakfast, everyone headed towards the forest to wish their friends good luck on the quest.

"(Y/n), walk with me, will you?" Mr. D grumbled. I nodded and slowed my pace, falling in step with the god.

"I've heard some things from Olympus; a few gods have gone missing, and Zues is on the lookout. Something is guarding them. I advise you to consider the Father's blessing associated with your quest. Don't try to figure it out too much; people have died. And when you get down there." He nodded his chin towards the upcoming labyrinth opening in the distance, "Trust your instincts, and try not to die until you've at least left the place."

I looked at him out of the corner of my eye. I'd heard so much about this man; he didn't care about campers; why was he giving me advice? I said it slowly and deliberately so he knew it wasn't meant as an insult.
