Looking back, I should've known something wasn't right with Reign's agency. There were signs, I just didn't think to look for them at the time.Getting the call to interview for a job I never applied for; that should've been my first clue. I was just so excited to finally get a call back. I never questioned it.
Being fresh out of college with no prior experience doesn't get you many interviews.
My second clue was that it was in Manhattan. Living out on the island, I never would've applied to the city. To me, the city was a place I visited a few times a year for a concert or to see the Christmas tree in time square. Occasionally I'd let my friends convince me to go in for an overpriced night of drinking and dancing. But otherwise I stayed out east.
I was never into taking subways or cabs everywhere. Plus, I owned a car; why would I walk anywhere.
But once the call came in, and Alyssa in HR told me the pay; I couldn't turn it down. There's no way I'd make that kind of money anywhere else on the island with no experience.
My third, and most in my face clue? The fact that they set me up with an apartment. They paid the first six months rent, in a high rise apartment. If that wasn't a red flag, the fact that it was in the same building as the CEO should've been.
It's not that I'm a fool or naive. I just kept telling myself that all my hard work, and sacrifice during college was paying off. Like Lady Luck was finally on my side. In a way I guess she was. Right now I don't know if it was all worth the price I'll have to pay.
