Y/n's POV – Meiji Jingumae, October 31st, 2018, 9:10 pm
The station is still, the only noises being the low chatter of my students as we make our way through the station. Nanami seems tired as he takes his tie off. The curses that we have encountered have been defeated by the kids, so we are just pacing behind them like chaperones.
"Rough night?" I ask, noticing the frown on his face deepening.
"Hate extra hours," Nanami replies, looking towards me with curiosity etched in his eyes. "If it's not an impertinence, why didn't you go with him?"
I almost want to laugh at how serious he always is.
"Satoru... He is overly protective of me. I can always tell he prefers I don't get involved." I explain, looking towards the kids as we reach the subway platform. "It's not like I want to either way,"
"You don't want to get involved?" Nanami's question catches me off guard.
"Why would I? Sorcery isn't my thing," I respond, scanning the area. There is blood on the floor, yet no one is near, the faint feeling of cursed energy invades the area. My eyes go to his as I realize he is staring, his brow raised in inquiry. "What?" I ask.
"You are the most powerful female sorcerer... and it's not your thing?" He asks, his voice carrying a certain judgemental edge.
"Don't act like you don't hate it too. Curses are... disgusting things," I retort.
"Money has priority over what I enjoy doing," Nanami responds, looking down the subway rails as a metallic noise approaches.
"An eight-car train is pulling in; please wait behind the yellow line. Do not lean on the platform doors or reach your hands or face past them," the announcement interrupts our conversation. I turn to the railings as the wagon comes to a halt, the doors opening to reveal its emptiness.
How bizarre.
"Y/n Masamichi, take a step forward."
My heart drops the second I feel it.
The familiar feeling settles in my throat, the sensation of ropes tying along its surface, tightening hard enough to hitch my breath.
No... they are dead. There is not one left. All of them were either already dead or slaughtered by Gojo, I checked, so how?
How could someone still exist?
"Y/n..." Megumi's voice reaches my ears, but it's muffled by the screech of the wagon.
How?
"Is this a sick joke?" Nobara's hand settles on my shoulder, snapping me back to reality. "Don't listen to them, let's go."
"Shit..." Megumi's face appears on the corner of my eye. "Do I call Gojo, Y/n..." his words melt away the more it sinks in.
They need to go. They need to leave before I hurt them.
I can feel the membrane slowly begin to split as I stand still, the tissue ripping in an agonizing burn.
I take a step forward.
"Nanami... Take them with you, go as far as you can from the subway," I instruct, turning my eyes to him only to notice I can't see over the tears threatening to spill.
"Y/n, don't be like this. You don't have to go," Nobara pulls me back, and I realize I have no choice as they come closer. Itadori approaches, and I do my best to not spill my tears as I face them.
I feel my hair rise as I use my magnetism. "I need to go," I try to ignore the betrayal in their eyes as I repel their bodies from me, making them unable to move as the ground keeps them still. My heart aches as I ignore their please.
"Nanami... I'll leave them in your hands," I turn to find a broken expression.
"I'll protect them with my life," he answers.
Why..?
"Y/n Masamichi, you are banned from your free will," my eyes can't contain the tears as I process the words. "Make your way to wagon four."
It's not fair.
I don't look back as I hear my name being screamed behind me, not because I don't wish to, but because I don't want to trigger the vow. I don't want to look back at their expressions as they realize how easy it is to make me bleed. As I walk inside the doors, my eyes focus on the object discarded on the floor.
A dagger in the middle of the entrance.
I try not to react to it as the doors close behind me.
Why...
I thought I finally had a shot at fighting for my life.
That things could change, but once again I am reminded that life was never fair to me, that evil was not something measurable that can run out.
I stay still, faced by the shine of the blade, the lights moving around me as the train moves.
I don't want to think, I don't want to imagine what I must face when the doors open.
"The next station is Shibuya," the voice isn't the same, there is someone tampering with the subway's sound system. My eyes seem to be the only thing I have control over as I scan around me, counting the speakers in this wagon, but I can notice it, cursed energy threading through the cart.
It's not that simple. I'll bleed out before I can do anything to stop the orders from piling up to my death.
I need to find the source, the missing elder.
"Take the dagger," the voice sounds familiar. I try to ignore the tightening of the vow as I lean down, taking it in my hand.
My heart begins to beat faster as the wagon slows down.
"An eight-car train is pulling in; please, Gojo Satoru, wait behind the yellow line. Do not lean on the platform doors or reach your hands or face past them."
I can feel the blood pool down at my feet as time appears to slow down. I look up to find him, his blue eyes confused as they encounter mine. The wagon stops, and the doors open.
"Y/n?" His voice feels like a bucket of cold water being dumped on me. He is about to take a step forward but stops as his eyes fall on the dagger in my hand.
"Leave the wagon," I look down at my feet as I step forward, the smell of blood dulling my senses. I ignore the hoards of people going inside the train as I step outside.
I have no control.
"Y/n," he takes a step forward, and I want to take one back.
But I can't.
I can't.
I can't do this.
I feel tears well in my eyes as I look back up, his expression shifting with understanding as he looks around us. I can sense the connection, the bind between us, but I can't follow it to the source.
"What happened? Where are the kids?" He takes a step closer.
I can feel my lip tremble as the wish to respond gets stronger.
I can't speak...
"Y/n masamichi...-
