Y/n's POV
The cry of the curse brings me back as I am lost in his expression. He stares at me with fear. It's everything I ever wished for since I was a child, to surpass him, to be useful, needed. So why? Why the fuck does it feel wrong? The binding vow tightens in my throat, reminding me of my duty. I always knew this was my purpose, so why does his stare hurt? The lights turn on, and I take that as my cue to display my abilities.
"She is controlling them?" I hear Shoko's voice.
Does she fear me now?
"That's an extension of my technique, Shoko." My eyes go back to them, to him. Gojo looks at me as he stays silent, I take a step towards him ready to explain.
I try to pretend my heart doesn't ache as Gojo takes one step back.
The binding vow feels less tense now as it confirms orders, making him feel vulnerable, and showcasing my abilities is done. I still need to let him know that I am associated with the elders and that I can touch him before midnight ,when the binding vow takes action. After all, Yaga told me I have to do this today, meaning before 11:59 pm is over, I don't have much time left.
I really just want to go home...
"Why did you hide it this whole time?" Gojo's voice is different now, the warmth with which he spoke to me today gone—betrayal, fear? With each passing minute, he looks more like the psychopath that pushed me into a wall.
"It wasn't something that was up to me..." My hands go up, trying to calm him down. The binding vow tightens—is it not direct enough? Do I need to actually say it was the elders' orders?
Shoko rushes to me. "That was amazing! That's an extension?" The way her eyes look at me with admiration stirs feelings I didn't know I had.
Shoko... she is smiling at me. "I'll show you the pure one later." I feel a little lighter now.
"Can the metals go through my limitless?" Gojo's poisoned filled voice brings me right back. The warm feeling is now gone. His feet are in a wider stance, but his eyes look defeated.
"No, they can't," I reply trying to seem as amiable as posible.
I decide to show him raising a pen and slowly pushing it towards him. I flinch as he uses his blue to shoot it out the window, causing it to shatter. I feel like I'm dealing with a wild animal; about to bite, guarded up and scared.
"Gojo! What are you talking about? Why would it cross your limitless?" Shoko is about to keep talking as she slowly starts getting more confused about whats going on, but I cut her off.
"I said I promise." I look for his eyes as I remind our conversation to him, hoping it's enough for him to trust me, even if it's just for today.
Idiot, he should never trust you at all. I push the thought away.
His eyebrows unfurrow, replaced by caution as he connects the dots. I make a smaller piece of metal float, and after a few seconds, he puts his hand out. I make the small coin-like metal float to his fingertip until it is stopped by his infinity, his eyes show relief.
'But, I am able to touch you.' The words are stuck on my chest. I should get it out now.
As I am about to say it, I'm interrupted by the sound of a thud, then another. Footsteps... The ground vibrates as they get closer, small cracks appearing in the middle of the warehouse, a curse's arm claws its way out through the crumbling concrete. It's big, its energy causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand up.
"That isn't a grade 1." Suguru gets in a defensive stance.
I give a few steps back, turning to see Gojo. His eyes are still locked on me. I can tell his guard is still up, but I need him to focus. I clench my jaw, thinking of a way to call a truce with him. "Let's be home by 12." I put out my pinky, such a childish thing, but it's all I can think of. He looks down at it, and I can tell he is cursing in his head as he links his with mine. I smile a bit as he looks forward and starts walking to the curse.
The special-grade curse's head peeks out of the hole. It has more eyes than I can count as it stands in front of us. It's huge, and I already feel tired at the amount of energy this will take.
"Shoko, we'll need you to focus on maintaining our energy high as we fight it. Suguru, go for his legs. I'll go to the right, focusing on his chest. Y/n, you go left and focus on its head."
"Are you all wearing plastic soles?" I ask, hoping to be able to electrocute it.
"I think so," Shoko checks everyone, looking confused.
"Don't touch the floor or my floating metals if I say clear."
With that, I make myself float, heading at top speed to the right. Gojo floats to the left, and I catch him looking at me as he matches my speed.
Focus, idiot.
Gojo uses his blue to push the curse towards the wall. I guess it's his habit. I raise a metal sheet and shoot it right at his head, but the curse moves at a faster pace than we do towards Shoko and Suguru. Suguru summons a curse to attack it, but the special-grade one ignores it, heading towards Shoko.
"Negative inversion." I turn on my polarity to make the floor Shoko is standing on float upwards as the curse tries to tackle its way to her, missing her as I pull her as fast as I can.
Shoko squeals, holding onto the plate as I bring her closer to me.
"Thanks." Shoko's voice is shaky as she steps down.
"No problem." I head towards the flooring the curse is standing on. I need him to stand on something with conductivity to shock him.
"Gojo! Can you hold him to the fence?" I yell, getting closer to it.Not a second passes when I feel the shock wave created by Gojo's blue as the curse gets crushed to it, I can tell holding it is hard, but he manages to keep it touching the fence. "Clear!" My hair floats, and I focus to make the charges ricochet with one another, generating a current. When it gets to the peak, I release it. "Reversal spark!" I yell as the fence flickers up in lightning. The special-grade gets stuck to it as it gets shocked, making it dazed enough for me to be able to kill it with my base technique. I can feel the polarity around me switching like crazy. I land on its face, touching him with both my hands. He is done. "Negative inversion." I switch the polarity of his cells, but...
Why isn't it happening... why? The curse starts leaving its dazed state, it's hand twitching. "Negative inversion!" I put in more energy, but nothing happens. Shit. Why can't I control it? I focus on the energy around me, and I feel it... Gojo is altering my electromagnetic field.
The void he is creating as he floats. Usually, the orientation of my magnetic field is influenced by the presence of moving charges. But he is sucking in all magnetic sources or currents, making my magnetic field nonexistent.
"Gojo, turn your blue off !" I say, ready to flee from the curse as its eyes flutter open. To my surprise, he turns it off. I charge up again. "Negative inversion." I feel the cells of the special-grade stop responding, making him paralyzed. The cells can't reach the amount of energy they need, so they become stuck, leaving my enemy to die. I raise one of the metal railings off the structure, making it go up in the air before shooting right through the curse's skull. I smile seeing the corpse under my feet.
I turn and feel relief as I see everyone okay, but as I pay more attention I am received with widened eyes and silence.
I clench my jaw to stop my lip from trembling.
Why does it hurt so much if I knew this would happen.
