After making sure that everyone was situated and in tents, Caroline and I retired to her tent later that evening.

I sighed tiredly and sat down on the cot that I slept in the night before and moved a hand across my face.

"Ky?" Caroline asked and sat down beside me. She furrowed her brows and cocked her head while she studied me, and I looked at her with a raised eyebrow in question. "Are you ok?" she asked softly.

I was about to nod before I sighed and shook my head no. "I will be," I said before I moved a hand across my face, biting back a small sigh. "I am not ok right now, though."

Caroline furrowed her brows further. "Is it because of Andrei?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, and I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow and look at her when I heard the jealousy in her tone.

"He does have you smitten; doesn't he?" I asked and raised the eyebrow higher with a small smirk on my face, and her eyes instantly grew wide while she stared at me shocked and horrified.

Her cheeks grew red, and she buried her face into hands, trying to cover how what I said affected her. She didn't say a word and bit back a small groan.

I chuckled and dipped my head closer to my chest. "Well?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I leaned backward on my cot, biting back another small chuckle. "Does he?"

She sighed before she slowly nodded, relenting. "Yes," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She cleared her throat and rubbed her cheeks as if she tried to get them not as red. "He does have me smitten. I don't know why, but..." She shrugged and grimaced while she continued to rub her cheeks.

I bit back a small snort and slowly nodded. "It's because you are his mate or something like that," I said.

She furrowed her brows and cocked her head while she studied me. "What do you mean?" she asked while she raised an eyebrow in question. "What do you mean that I am his mate?"

"You are his mate," I replied while I dipped my head closer to my chest before I cleared my throat and shifted slightly away from her, subconsciously. "You are his true mate. That is why you are feeling that way with him."

Caroline blinked and blinked again, stunned and didn't seem to notice that I moved away from her. A look of shock appeared on her face while she stared at me. "How do you know?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "How do you know that he is my mate? I don't even have one."

"At the moment," I replied while I gave her a pointed look and raised both eyebrows in unison. "You don't have one at the moment because we haven't rejected each other yet. When we do, then you will feel the bond with him grow stronger."

Caroline cocked her head and furrowed her brows while she stared at me. She didn't say a word, and I could tell that she didn't want to get her hopes up only to have them broken later on down the road.

"Trust me, Caroline," I said and bowed my head a little while I gave her a small smile, my heart breaking more and more with each passing second. "You will know what I am saying when I leave and reject him. I promise."

She bit back a small sigh before she slowly nodded, relenting. "Ok," she said, her voice barely above a whisper before she cleared her throat and shifted on her bed. "I trust you."

I breathed a sigh of relief when she said that she trusted me, and I nodded. "That's all I needed to hear," I said softly before I cleared my throat and pulled the pouch out of my pocket before I raised an eyebrow and smirked while I looked at her. "Now, let's see if we can't find some food in here, ya? I think I need to eat something before I go mad." My stomach growled again, and I couldn't help but look away from her and blush.
