Silas looked at the person that I couldn't see and said something that I couldn't hear, even with my advanced hearing. He slowly nodded and bit back a small gulp when the person said something to him, and I had a feeling that it sounded harsh.
I turned to look at Fernos and touched my ears, silently asking if he would be able to help me hear what they were saying.
Fernos held back an eye roll and set his jaw, pressing his lips into a thin line. He didn't say a word and gestured with his head toward the pair, silently telling me to look that way.
I held back an eye roll and pressed my lips into a thin line but did what I was told to do and looked that way.
Fernos placed his hands over my ears and closed his eyes, and I followed suit and closed my eyes without having to be told to do it.
My hearing became better than it had in the past, and I could hear their conversation, which I knew was about us.
"Are you sure that there is no one there?" the figure asked Silas in a gruff tone, and Silas flinched and bowed his head, submitting ever so slightly. "You didn't go check like I told you to do, Silas." He bared his teeth in warning, and Silas flinched and bowed lower.
"But I can't smell anything, Sir," Silas said with a shake of his head. "Why would I check when there is nothing there?"
"Because you are surrounded by those of different species that can do different things than what you are aware of," the man said sarcastically, and I couldn't help but bite back a small snort of amusement because this man was right.
Silas was surrounded by different species that could make it so that he couldn't hear, smell, or sense another person until it was too late.
Silas bowed his head and bit his lip. He didn't say a word, and I couldn't help but narrow my eyes and scowl at the male because I couldn't help but think that he wanted someone nearby to see what was happening to him.
The person on the other side of the barrier hissed in warning and narrowed his eyes, pursing his lips in annoyance. "I hope that you aren't thinking about having someone see what you are up to, Boy," he said, hissing a warning. He narrowed his eyes and gritted his teeth together. "Or should I remind you as to what you will be losing if you do something like that?"
Silas gulped and shook his head, and he flinched. "No, my Lord," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I do not need to be reminded as to what I am going to lose if I do not comply with your or the king's orders."
"Hmph." He sneered and bared his teeth in warning. "Good," he said coldly. "Because I will gladly show you what you will be losing if you defy my or the king's orders."
Silas flinched and bowed lower. "I know, my Lord," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I am sorry. I hope that you can forgive me."
"Hmph," the man said. He looked around before he looked at him, slowly blinking. "Now, have you found anything about our... new guest? Who is she? Why does she look like the past Red Wolf before this Caroline girl?"
"She is her daughter, my Lord," Silas said and bowed. "Her name is Kyler Rose Pierce."
"Is she another of the girl's protectors?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question.
"No, my Lord," he said and shook his head, his voice barely above a whisper. "She is not another one of Caroline's protectors."
"And what is she called, or is she only known as the Red Wolf's Daughter?"
